Instrument cluster, general

The instrument cluster (IC) control unit (A11) informs the driver about all dynamic and static vehicle conditions as well as about the current condition of the systems installed in the vehicle. With faulty or safety-relevant vehicle functions, appropriate warnings are output via the instrument cluster (IC) control unit.

To convey the information to the driver, the following indicators are possible in the instrument cluster (IC) control unit:

IMPORTANT Detailed information on the warning and indicator lamps is contained in the document "Instrument cluster (IC) control unit, component description".

The instrument cluster (IC) control unit makes the following functions possible:

Function sequence for activating instrument cluster (IC) control unit

The multifunction display of the instrument cluster (IC) control unit is activated by waking up the user interface CAN (model 447.8) or the chassis CAN or interior CAN (model 447.6/7), e.g. by:

IMPORTANT After bus idle, the instrument cluster (IC) control unit remains active for 30 s. In a fault is present, this time is increased to 120 s.

Additional function requirements for indicator lamp test

IMPORTANT Model 447.6/7

The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit (N73) sends the status of terminal 15 over the chassis CAN (CAN E) to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit.

IMPORTANT Model 447.8

The electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit sends the status of terminal 15 over the chassis CAN, the central gateway (N93/4) and the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster (IC) control unit.

Function sequence for indicator lamp test

The indicator lamp test is used to check that certain warning lamps and indicator lamps in the instrument cluster (IC) control unit are functioning correctly. The instrument cluster (IC) control unit performs this test automatically each time terminal 15 is switched on.

The function of the following warning and indicator lamps is checked during the indicator lamp test:

IMPORTANT The indicator lamp test is terminated when the engine is started.

The function of the following indicator lamps is not checked:

IMPORTANT Detailed information on the warning and indicator lamps is contained in the document "Instrument cluster (IC) control unit, component description".
