DTCO, general
The digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) is a device required by law for recording the following data for a maximum of 2 drivers:
- Date
- Time
- Vehicle speed
- Travel distance
- Total distance
- Time groups
- Wheel time
- Other working hours
- Break and idle periods
- Standby times (waiting time, passenger time)
- Fault recording with fault code
The displayed language of the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) is automatically determined by the current or last inserted tachograph card.
The DTCO has the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for ignition OFF
- Function sequence for ignition ON
- Function sequence for moving vehicle
Function sequence for ignition OFF
In case of ignition OFF, the following information is shown on the display of the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO):
- Time
- Speed (0 km/h)
- Total distance
After approx. 5 min, the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) goes into standby. The time, operating mode and activities that are set are shown on the display. After a further 3 min, the display turns off.
The standby mode is canceled through the following actions:
- "Tml. 15 ON"
- Actuating any button on the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO)
- The digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) reports an event or a fault.
Function sequence for ignition ON
In case of "ignition on", the following information is shown on the display:
- If there is no card in card slot 1, the message "Card!" appears for 20 s
- Time
- Speed (0 km/h)
- Total distance
Function requirements for moving vehicle
- At least one tachograph card inserted in digital tachograph control unit (DTCO)
- Digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) not in standby
- Vehicle speed > 0 km/h
Function sequence for moving vehicle
The digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) receives a conventional real-time signal and encrypted data (from the cryptography microchip integrated in the travel and speed sensor) from the travel and speed sensor via direct line. The digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) compares these signals and data and can thus safely determine manipulation. At the same time, the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) transmits data and command signals to the travel and speed sensor.
Comparison of the serial numbers between the travel and speed sensor and the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) further increases the certainty.
In addition to the vehicle speed signal from the travel and speed sensor, the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO) receives an independent vehicle speed signal from the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit via chassis CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit (EZS) and front end CAN.
After evaluating the input signals, the following data are shown on the display of the digital tachograph control unit (DTCO):
- Operating mode (symbol)
- Vehicle speed
- Activity of driver 1 or 2
- Card symbol of driver 1 or 2
- Time
Model 447.8
The digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit receives the displayed time from the instrument cluster (IC) control unit via the user interface CAN, the central gateway, the chassis CAN, the electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit and the front end CAN.
Model 447.6/7
The digital tachograph (DTCO) control unit receives the displayed time from the instrument cluster (IC) control unit via the chassis CAN, electronic ignition lock (EZS) control unit and the front end CAN.
- "UTC" time
- Total distance
