WARNING Risk of injury  caused by pinching or crushing when working on springs or spring bodies that are under tension Use only approved tensioning devices; additionally screen off hazardous area if necessary. Check special tools for damage and proper operation (visual inspection). Wear protective gloves. AS00.00-Z-0001-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Drain pressure in AIR BODY CONTROL system using vehicle diagnosis system.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06LWO
2 Remove center and rear engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105LWE
3 Remove front wheel.   AR40.10-P-1102A
4 Unhook electric lines (10) from holder (11) and place to one side. NOTES
Do not kink, crush or stretch the lines.
Otherwise, the lines will be damaged and malfunctions will occur.
 
5 Unscrew nut (4) and remove suspension strut (5) from spring link (2). Model 238 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all- wheel drive) AR32.25-P-1017LWQ
    Model 238 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all- wheel drive) except code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL)
NOTES
Route suspension strut (5) on spring control arm (2) in suspension strut linkage area to one side.
Otherwise, the elastomer boot on the suspension strut joint will be damaged.

6 Remove stabilizer from front axle carrier (7). IMPORTANT The torsion bar linkage remains on the stabilizer bar. AR32.35-P-2200LWQ
7 Unscrew nut (6) and remove spring link (2) from front axle carrier (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, spring control arm to front axle carrier *BA33.20-P-1002-01U 
8 Remove nut (3) and remove spring link (2). NOTES
The ball head must be counterheld and an impact wrench/driver must not be used.
Otherwise the ball head or steering knuckle may be damaged.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, spring control arm to steering knuckle
*BA33.20-P-1001-01U 
    SPECIAL TOOL Model 238 with engine 256 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

9 Remove holder (11) from spring link (2). When replacing the spring control arm (2).  
INSPECT Check     
10 Check sealing bellows and ball head of spring link (2) for damage. If damage is found,

replace spring link (2).
 
11 Check suspension strut joint on spring link (2) for damage. If damage is found,

replace spring link (2).
 
12 Check elastomer bearing in spring link (2) for damage. If the neutral (original) elastomer bearing is damaged,

replace spring link (2).
If the elastomer bearing for camber correction is damaged,

replace elastomer bearing on spring link (2).

13 Install in the reverse order.    
14 Perform chassis alignment.   AR40.20-P-0200LWO
