REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Relieve pressure in AIR BODY CONTROL system using the diagnostic system    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06LWO
2 Remove front wheel   AR40.10-P-1102A
3 Disconnect electrical connector (1) at suspension strut (2)    
4 Remove guide (3) from suspension strut (2) and place to one side with lines attached    
5 Unhook brake hose (4) from brackets on suspension strut (2)    
6 Remove suspension strut (2) from spring control (5) arm INSTALLATION NOTES :
Bolt (6) must be inserted from the rear towards the front.
Otherwise the brake or the rim may be damaged.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, suspension strut to spring control arm
*BA32.25-P-1002-04P 
7 Secure steering knuckle (7) against falling down    
8 Remove upper transverse control arm (8) from steering knuckle (7)   AR33.20-P-0500LWO
9 Remove cover (9) When removing the right suspension strut (2).  
10 Remove maintenance flap (10) When removing the left suspension strut (2).  
11 Remove pressure line connection (11) from suspension strut (2) INSTALLATION NOTES :
The thread on the compressed air line connection (11) may not be damaged.
Otherwise, leaks will occur.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Pressure line to air suspension

    SPECIAL TOOL Torque tool set Fig 5
    SPECIAL TOOL Torque wrench
If the thread is damaged

Repair compressed air line connection (11).

12 Seal compressed air line (11) and opening on suspension strut using suitable stop plug SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 4
13 Disconnect electrical connections (13)    
14 Unscrew nuts (12) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, strut to body *BA32.25-P-1001-04P 
15 Remove suspension strut (2) downwards NOTES
Carefully remove suspension strut (2).
Otherwise the suspension strut joint can be damaged by the spring control arm (5).
NOTES
When extending suspension strut (2), do not tension the brake hose (4).
Otherwise the brake hose (4) may be damaged.
 
INSPECT Check     
16 Check condition of suspension strut (2) If a problem arises

Replace suspension strut (2).
 
17 Measure length of new suspension strut (2) and compare dimension with value in leaflet When replacing suspension strut (2).
If a problem arises

Do not use suspension strut (2) and order a suitable suspension strut (2).
 
18 Check suspension strut link on spring control arm (5) for condition and wear If a problem arises

Replace spring link (5).
Model 238 with code 489 (AIR BODY CONTROL) except code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)

19 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Check     
20 Read out and erase fault memory using the diagnostic system    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06LWO
21 Check AIR BODY CONTROL for leak tightness   AR32.22-P-8101LWO 
22 Check headlamp adjustment When replacing the suspension strut (2) or the spring control arm (5).  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP82.10-P-8260J
