1 Print out "Trailer hitch certificate" document. For countries in Europe which do not belong to the EU.
IMPORTANT The document "Trailer hitch, certificate" must be submitted for the installation acceptance.

2 Print out the detailed installation instructions and hand them over to the customer. For do-it-yourself installation of trailer hitch by the customer.  
3 In the XENTRY Portal Parts Information in DG 99, check if the fuse and relay module installed in the rear passenger compartment in accordance with the vehicle equipment can be used for retrofitting the trailer hitch. If rear passenger compartment fuse and relay module is incompatible,

replace fuse and relay module in rear passenger compartment.
 
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT The removed fuse and relay module in the rear passenger compartment is no longer required. AR54.15-P-0001LW
4 In the XENTRY Portal Parts Information in DG 99, check if the cooler installed in accordance with the vehicle equipment can be used for retrofitting the trailer hitch. If cooler is incompatible,

remove radiator.

If the automatic transmission oil lines are incompatible,

8 Remove battery. If the wiring harness for the fan unit has be replaced.

9 Remove windshield wiper system. If the wiring harness for the fan unit has be replaced.

10 Cut through radiator shutters wiring harness branch-off line at a distance of approx. 2 cm to the black 4-pin coupling. Model 253.3 with code 2U1 (Radiator shutters)  
11 Insulate line ends of radiator shutters wiring harness branch-off line with solder terminal sleeves and strap down. Model 253.3 with code 2U1 (Radiator shutters)  
REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   IMPORTANT Note color coding of the lines. Differently colored lines must be insulated separately. AR00.19-P-0100A
12.1 Remove right trim in load compartment. Model 253.3 except code ME05 (Hybrid drive 85 kW-94 kW - variant (incl. plug-in))

14 Remove spare wheel well trim.    
15 Remove right D-pillar trim.

17 Remove rear switch module lower sensor (A87/2) and rear switch module upper sensor from rear bumper (70).

18 Unfasten rubber retainers on rear muffler. Antifriction paste, rubber parts 2.5 kg, DBL 6867.00 *BR00.45-Z-1002-06A 
19 Remove crossmember (6). IMPORTANT The crossmember (6) is no longer required.  
INSTALLING Install     
20 Retrofit trailer hitch crossmember (1), left longitudinal member reinforcement (2) and right longitudinal member reinforcement (3).   AN31.11-P-0010-04LWH 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, trailer hitch to longitudinal member reinforcement (short) *BA31.11-P-1001-01M 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Longitudinal member reinforcement for trailer hitch (short) to body *BA31.11-P-1002-01M 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, longitudinal member reinforcement for trailer hitch (long) to body *BA31.11-P-1003-01M 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
21 Retrofit trailer hitch control unit.   AN31.19-P-8080-05LWH 
22 Retrofit wiring harness for fully electric swiveling trailer hitch.   AN31.19-P-0010-03LWH

27 Retrofit engine compartment lining. IMPORTANT The engine compartment lining is no longer required.
IMPORTANT Install an engine compartment lining that is compatible with the trailer hitch.

28 Install shielding (16) at right side on underfloor paneling.    
29 Add bumper cutout. Model 253.3 except code 772 (AMG styling - front spoiler, longitudinal members) AN31.11-P-8080-02LWH 
30 Modify lower bumper section. Model 253.3 with code 772 (AMG styling - front spoiler, longitudinal members)  
31 Install rear switch module upper sensor on rear bumper (70). Model 253.3 with code P17 (KEYLESS-GO Package)

32 Install rear bumper (70).

33 Mount reinforcement (70.3) onto rear bumper (70) and fix in place using expansion rivet (70.4) and screws (70.5).    
34 Install rear switch module lower sensor (A87/2) on rear bumper (70). Model 253.3 with code P17 (KEYLESS-GO Package)

35 Install remaining parts.    
36 Attach adhesive label for tongue weight.    
  Update Vehicle Documentation (VeDoc)     
37 Deregister special equipment in vehicle data card online. Model 253.3 with code 2U1 (Radiator shutters)

38 Enter special equipment into online vehicle data card. IMPORTANTCode 550 (Trailer hitch)   
39 Attach "Trailer hitch retrofitted as per AN31.10-P-0010LWH" note under field organization texts to DG 31, DG 50, DG 52, DG 54, DG 72 and DG 88.    
40 Connect diagnostic system and select vehicle using vehicle identification number (VIN).
