Connection scheme
Routing diagram shown on model 253.9
- Connect black 24-pin connector (20.1) of trailer hitch wiring harness (20) to trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
The black 24-pin connector (20.1) was routed into the vehicle interior during installation of the trailer hitch crossmember.
- Connect white 6-pin connector of trailer hitch wiring harness (20) to the white 6-pin connector of control unit wiring harness (22).
This makes the electrical connection for the vehicle interior/trailer hitch (X58/33).
- Use retaining clip to fasten electrical connection for vehicle interior/trailer hitch (X58/33) onto rear center section.
- Connect black 6-pin connector (22.2) to trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
- Connect black 10-pin connector (22.3) to trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
- Connect white 10-pin connector (22.4) to trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
- Route control unit wiring harness (22) along the existing lines to the rear fuse and relay module (K40/5) and secure using cable ties.
- Fit brown fuse holder (22.1) onto rear fuse and relay module (K40/5) and check fuse assignment.
Fuse assignment:
Contact cavity 1 = 25 A
Contact cavity 2 = 15 A
Contact cavity 3 = 25 A
Contact cavity 4 = 30 A
Contact cavity 5 = 15 A
The brown fuse holder contact cavities (22.1) are labeled.
- Route white 4-pin connector (22.5) to rear SAM control unit (N10/8) and connect.
- Route brown/white line (BN/WH) to right rear wheel arch ground point (W3/8) and connect
.
- Route liftgate switch branch-off line (22.8) along the right D-pillar to headliner.
- Release left cable duct (arrow).
- Remove lines of connector (22.6) from liftgate switch branch-off line (22.8) with the
basic wiring harness repair kit or with the
supplementary wiring harness repair kit for passenger cars.
Note down contact cavity assignments.
- Route liftgate switch branch-off line (22.8) into the liftgate above the headliner through the left cable duct (arrow).
Wrap liftgate switch branch-off line (22.8) in the area around the headliner with felt tape.
Use pull-through device and lubricant for rubber installation.
The headliner does not need to be detached.
- Install lines into connector (22.6).
Observe previously noted contact cavity assignments.
- Wrap liftgate switch branch-off line (22.8), for a length of 400 mm starting at the black 6-pin connector (22.6), with felt tape.
- Route liftgate switch branch-off line (22.8) along the vehicle wiring harness as shown.
- Connect the brown line (br) to right upper liftgate ground point (W8/12)
.
Cut off excess length of brown line (BN) and fit a commercially available round cable lug.
- Fasten liftgate switch branch-off line (22.8) to vehicle wiring harness using cable ties.
Strap down excess length of line.
