REMOVING Remove     
1 Release underfloor paneling. NOTES Perform the articulation angle measurement on a vehicle measurement lift/pit.
Otherwise the measurement results will be false.

2 Remove exhaust system. Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) with code U55 (Multi-link axle)

IMPORTANT The center muffler and the rear muffler are removed together and do not need to be separated.

4 Remove heat shield between exhaust system and propeller shaft.    
5 Position reinforcement (2) on propeller shaft intermediate bearing (1) and frame floor assembly.    
6 Screw in screws (3). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, center cross strut (front) to frame floor assembly *BA61.10-P-1001-01N 
MEASURING Measure    
7 Prepare articulation angle meter.   AR41.10-P-0086-02MFC 
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 33 19 00 Inclinometer   WS26.00-P-0416B
8 Check articulation angle meter and adjust if necessary. IMPORTANT See operating instructions for the inclinometer.  
9 Measure articulation angle from flange on power take-off to front half of propeller shaft (x1).   AR41.10-P-0085-07MFC

10 Measure articulation angle from front half to rear half of propeller shaft (x2).   AR41.10-P-0085-12MFC

11 Measure articulation angle from rear half of propeller shaft to rear axle differential (x3). Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 139, 260, 282, 654 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) AR41.10-P-0085-03MFC 
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 33 19 00 Inclinometer   WS26.00-P-0416B
12 Read out all articulation angles (x 1, x 2, x 3) from memory of articulation angle meter and note down.

    HELD TESTER Inclination angle from rear propeller shaft to rear axle differential *BE41.10-P-1003-01D 
    HELD TESTER Inclination angle from front propeller shaft to rear propeller shaft *BE41.10-P-1002-01D 
    HELD TESTER Inclination angle from power take-off flange to front propeller shaft
If the articulation angles (x 1, x 2, x 3) are outside the tolerance,

Correct articulation angles (x 1, x 2, x 3) of propeller shaft.

INSTALLING Install     
13 Unscrew screws (3) and remove reinforcement (2).    
14 Install heat shield between exhaust system and propeller shaft.    
15 Install trim of rear axle carrier. Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 260 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive) with code U55 (Multi-link axle) except code M016 (Uprated engine) Model 118, 177, 247 with engine 282, 654 with code M005 (Vehicles with 4MATIC/all-wheel drive)
