Remove/Install Drive Shaft With Drive Shaft Housing - AR41.50-P-0011MNB

Model 190 with transmission 700.4

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A
CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove lower engine compartment paneling. Model 190.381 with transmission 700.4 AR61.20-P-1105RGB
    Model 190 (except 190.381) with transmission 700.4 AR61.20-P-1105RG
2 Remove transmission.   AR27.10-P-0009MNB
3 Detach catalytic converters from exhaust gas turbochargers and fasten at the side.   AR49.10-P-5500MNB
4 Remove heat shields from drive shaft housing (41).    
5 Support drive shaft housing (41) with major assembly mount and support plate.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
6 Fasten the drive shaft (50) with a tension belt (A). IMPORTANT Secure drive shaft (50) via side openings (1) of drive shaft housing (41).  
7 Detach flange (7) of drive shaft (50) from flywheel through side openings (1).    
8 Remove screws from drive shaft housing (41) on engine housing.    
9 Remove drive shaft housing (41) with drive shaft (50) downward. IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
10 Detach brackets of exhaust system from drive shaft housing (41). When replacing the drive shaft housing (41).  
INSPECT Check     
11 Check gearing of compensation ring (41S) for wear and damage. If a problem occurs,

replace compensating ring (41S).

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, compensating ring to drive shaft at rear *BA41.50-P-1005-01B 
    SPECIAL TOOL Assembly drift Fig 1
12 Check bearing (41H) for wear and damage. If a problem occurs,

Replace drive shaft (50).
 
      AR41.10-P-0051MNB 
13 Check drive shaft (50) for damage and wear. If a problem occurs,

Replace drive shaft (50).
 
      AR41.10-P-0051MNB 
14 Check flywheel for wear and damage. If a problem occurs,

Replace flywheel.

INSTALLING Install     
15 Attach brackets of exhaust system to drive shaft housing (41). When replacing the drive shaft housing (41).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, left/right holder to drive shaft housing *BA49.10-P-1015-01AG 
16 Position drive shaft housing (41) with drive shaft (50) on engine housing.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
    NOTES
Do not loosen the screws (11, 12).
Otherwise, consequential damage will occur, which may necessitate the replacement of the transmission and the drive shaft (50) with drive shaft housing (41).
 
    IMPORTANT Aid of helper required.  
    IMPORTANT Apply coating of grease to gearing of front splined profile, compensating ring (41S) and the bearing (41H) before assembling.  
    Long-life grease *BR00.45-Z-1001-06A 
    If the screw (12) at the compensation ring (41S) was nevertheless loosened,

tension compensating ring (41S) again.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, compensating ring to drive shaft at rear *BA41.50-P-1005-01B 
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
    SPECIAL TOOL Assembly drift Fig 1
    If the screw (11) on the compensation ring (41S) was nevertheless loosened,

replace compensating ring (41S).
 
      AR41.10-P-0003-01MNB

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, compensating ring to drive shaft at rear *BA41.50-P-1005-01B

17 Attach flange (7) of drive shaft (50) to flywheel through side openings (1). IMPORTANT Replace screws.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, drive shaft to two-mass flywheel *BA41.50-P-1004-01B 
18 Attach drive shaft housing (41) with drive shaft (50) to engine housing. IMPORTANT Replace screws.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut, drive shaft housing to engine *BA41.50-P-1002-01B 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, drive shaft housing to engine *BA41.50-P-1001-01B 
19 Remove tensioning strap (A).    
20 Remove major assembly mount and support plate.    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate   WS26.00-P-0415B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 24 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0253B
21 Attach heat shields to drive shaft housing (41). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heat shield to drive shaft housing *BA41.50-P-1006-01B 
22 Remove fasteners and attach catalytic converters to exhaust gas turbochargers.   AR49.10-P-5500MNB
23 Install transmission.   AR27.10-P-0009MNB
    IMPORTANT Only install lower engine compartment paneling after leak test.  
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
24 Perform engine test run and check transmission and drive shaft housing (41) for proper operation and leaktightness.    
25 Install lower engine compartment paneling. Model 190.381 with transmission 700.4 AR61.20-P-1105RGB
    Model 190 (except 190.381) with transmission 700.4 AR61.20-P-1105RG
