CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of engine oil. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing engine oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not fill engine oil into beverage containers.

  Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Disconnect battery ground line   AR54.10-P-0003LW
2 Remove left and right air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150MMV
3 Remove soundproofing of the left rail (1) and right rail    
4 Relieve fuel pressure over diagnostic socket   AR07.03-P-1460-01VA 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Cap on service connection *BA07.03-P-1007-01D 
    SPECIAL TOOL Pressure hose Fig 3
5 Relieve fuel pressure over fuel system high-pressure circuit   AR07.03-P-1460-02MM 
6 Remove crash plate and soundproofing for high-pressure pump   AR07.02-P-1020MMV 
7 Detach high-pressure line and low-pressure line from high-pressure pump   AR07.02-P-1020MMV 
8 Detach high-pressure lines from right rail   AR07.03-P-1012MMV 
9 Detach high-pressure lines from left rail (1) and close off openings with a suitable stop plug NOTES
Do not kink or bend high-pressure lines. Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.

10 Release and disconnect electrical connection on fuel pressure and temperature sensor   AR07.04-P-0050MMV 
11 Release and disconnect electrical connections on fuel injectors (17) of left rail (1)    
12 Unlock electrical connections at ignition coils of left cylinder bank, separate and unclip electrical lines from left rail (1)   AR15.12-P-2008MMV
13 Remove screw/bolts (1s) by turning each one through half a turn    
14 Remove hold-down tool (3)    
15 Mark fuel injectors (17) relative to respective cylinder    
16 Detach left rail (1) from fuel injectors (17)    
17 Remove fuel injectors (17) on left cylinder bank IMPORTANT Engine oil which comes out during disassembly of the left rail (1) or from the fuel injectors (17) is safe. The left rail (1) or the fuel injectors (17) can be re-used.  
    in the case of jammed fuel injectors (17) of the left rail (1)

Remove fuel injectors (17) of left rail (1).

18 Clean fuel connections on fuel injectors (17) NOTES
During cleaning the fuel connections must be held downwards.
Otherwise dirt will finds its way into the openings and lead to damage.
Assembly cleaner

19 Check high-pressure lines and low-pressure line for damage   AR07.03-P-1010-03MM 
    NOTES
The sealing cone for high-pressure lines and low-pressure line must be checked before assembly.
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
If damage is present

Replace high-pressure lines or low-pressure line.

INSTALLING Install     
20 Check fuel injectors (17) for left cylinder bank for external damage For damage

Replace fuel injectors (17).
 
21 Read off the injector quantity compensation (IMA) coding on fuel injectors (17) and take a note of it For installation of new fuel injectors (17).  
22 Replace sealing packages of fuel injectors (17)   AR07.03-P-0004-02MM

23 Replace sealing rings (26) on fuel injectors (17)    
24 Replace sealing rings (27) on fuel injectors (17)    
25 Replace sealing rings (28) on fuel injectors (17)   AR07.03-P-0004-01MM

26 Replace seal (2) on overflow connector of the left rail (1)    
27 Slide fuel injectors (17) into left rail (1) and fasten in place using the hold-down tools (3) IMPORTANT When reusing the fuel injectors (17), observe markings.
IMPORTANT Fuel injectors (17) of the left rail (1) may only be installed again in combination with the left rail (1) (as a unit).
IMPORTANT Replace hold-down tool (3).
 
28 Position left rail (1) with fuel injectors (17) into left cylinder head    
29 Tighten screw/bolts (1s) alternately each by half a revolution TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, fuel distributor to cylinder head cover *BA07.52-P-1001-01G 
30 Unlock electrical connections at ignition coils of left cylinder bank, separate and clip electrical lines onto left rail (1)   AR15.12-P-2008MMV
31 Put on and lock electrical connections on fuel injectors (17) of left rail (1), until it locks    
32 Put lock electrical connection onto fuel pressure and temperature sensor, until it locks   AR07.04-P-0050MMV 
33 Remove stop plug from high-pressure lines and low-pressure line SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 5
34 Mount high-pressure lines on left rail (1) and right rail   AR07.03-P-1010-02MMA 
    NOTES
Do not kink or bend high-pressure lines. Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Union nut, fuel line to fuel distributor

35 Mount high-pressure line and low-pressure line on high-pressure pump   AR07.03-P-1010-02MMA 
    NOTES
Do not kink or bend high-pressure line and low-pressure line.
Otherwise leaks and damage can occur.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Union nut, fuel line to high-pressure pump

36 Install crash plate and soundproofing for high-pressure pump   AR07.02-P-1020MMV 
37 Install soundproofing of the left rail (1) and right rail    
38 Install left and right air filter housing   AR09.10-P-1150MMV
39 Connect ground line to battery   AR54.10-P-0003LW

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Store injector quantity compensation (IMA) coding in engine management control unit For installation of new fuel injectors (17). AD00.00-P-2000-04B

REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS
Read out and erase fault memory using the diagnostic system   AD00.00-P-2000-04B
42 Check fuel high-pressure circuit   AR07.03-P-1010-04MM 
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear buttoned-up and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
43 Perform an engine test run, in doing so check engine and fuel system for proper operation and leaktightness
