Potential risks
Risk of explosion, poisoning and injury
No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.
Fuels are highly inflammable and toxic if inhaled. Fuel may cause damage to skin. For example, skin is degreased when it comes into contact with gasoline. Fuel vapors are explosive, invisible and spread out across the floor. They are poisonous when inhaled and have an anesthetizing effect in high concentrations.
Safety precautions/instructions
- Pay attention to national safety precautions and regulations.
- No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking.
- Ensure the work place is adequately ventilated.
- Never drain or pour in fuels over work pits.
- Store drained fuel in a suitable and sealed vessel.
- Immediately eliminate any fuel which has flowed out.
Performing work on a vehicle where an open flame is involved
(e.g. welding or similar)
- Remove the relevant parts of the fuel system before performing this type of work and seal open fuel lines with stop plugs.
First-aid measures
- Clean moistened skin with water and soap.
- Change moistened clothing as quickly as possible.
- If fuel gets into the eyes, rinse eyes with water immediately and consult a physician if necessary.
Connect fuel lines
When opening and closing hose or line connections carrying fuel, the following assembly notes must be observed and the special tools prescribed in each case must be used:
Plug-in connector
- The fuel lines (1a, 1b) must be plugged together with unlocked safety clamps (1) until the safety clamps (1) fully engage when pressed in.
- Correct engagement of the fuel lines (1a, 1b) must be checked by pulling them apart slightly. If necessary, plug fuel lines (1a, 1b) together again.
Click clamp
- The click clamps (2) must be placed at the specified position of the fuel hose (2a) and plugged together with pliers for click clamps until they engage.
- Correct engagement of the click clamps (2) must be checked by means of a visual inspection.
Always replace click clamps.
Quick connection
- The quick connection (3) must be fitted so that it engages on the connection.
- Correct engagement of the quick connection (3) must be checked by pulling it apart slightly. If necessary, fit quick connection (3) again.
