	Remove
1	Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).
2	Remove wheel and tire assembly or rear axle wheel and tire assemblies.		AR40.10-P-1100GWX
3	Mark position of left (L6/3) or right (L6/4) rear axle RPM sensor at hub reduction gear using suitable means.	The distance to the pulse ring is not adjustable.
4	Remove left (L6/3) or right (L6/4) rear axle RPM sensor.
5	Seal mounting hole of left (L6/3) or right (L6/4) rear axle RPM sensor using suitable stop plugs	Record plug	Fig 3
6	Remove bleed line from hub reduction gear and seal openings using suitable stop plugs.	Record plug	Fig 3
7	Remove rear axle brake disk.	Model 463.234 as of model year 2013 up to model year 2019 with code ZQ0 (G 500 4x4² )	AR42.10-P-0240GWX
		Tighten left (L6/3) or right (L6/4) rear axle RPM sensor with connected wiring harness and lines of brake caliper to the vehicle free of tension. This will prevent damage to the lines.
8	Drain oil of hub reduction gear into a suitable container.	If the hub reduction gear is disassembled.

9	Support hub reduction gear.

		The screws (4, 5) must continue to be accessible. Support hub reduction gear so that its axle-side threaded connection remains accessible.
		The hub reduction gear is pulled out in this position from the axle tube.
10	Remove left or right rear suspension strut from rear axle.	Do not loosen screws of suspension strut from frame.	AR32.25-P-1016GWX
11	Unscrew nuts of screws (4) and remove screws (4).
12	Remove screws (5) and remove carrier plate of axle support.
13	Remove axle-side screws (7, 8, 9) of hub reduction gear.	The screws (7, 8, 9) have differing lengths.
14	Secure hub reduction gear with suitable means against falling down, and guide out and remove in an axial direction with drive shaft out of axle.

		Aid of helper required.
		Depending on the level of the axle, oil may escape from the rear axle. Collect escaping oil with suitable means.
	Clean
15	Clean removed parts using suitable means.	The marking of the position of the left (L6/3) or right (L6/4) rear axle RPM sensor must be retained.
	Check
16	Check removed parts for wear and damage.	If problems are found,
		↓
		replace affected parts.
	Install
17	Clean contact and sealing surfaces as well as sealing surface (A) of axle flange.		AR01.00-P-0050-01A

		Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray	*BR00.45-Z-1046-04A
18	Distribute sealing compound evenly on sealing surface (A) of axle flange.	Surface sealant, green	*BR00.45-Z-1129-01A
19	Install hub reduction gear with drive shaft and secure against falling down.

		The lengths of the drive shafts are different on the left and right sides.
		Ensure that the hub reduction gear and the drive shaft are correctly aligned.
		The teeth of drive shaft must engage in their counterpart in the axle.
		Pay attention to wiring harness of left (L6/3) or right (L6/4) rear axle RPM sensor.
		Two helpers required.
20	Position bracket of brake lines and tighten axle-side screws (7, 8, 9) of hub reduction gear lightly by hand.	Left-hand side of vehicle: Length of screws (9): 40 mm. Length of screws (7, 8): 35 mm. Right-hand side of vehicle: Length of screws (8, 9): 40 mm. Length of screws (7): 35 mm.
21	Fasten axle-side screws (7, 8, 9) of hub reduction gear.	Fasten screws (7, 8, 9) in a crosswise sequence. Otherwise the hub reduction gear is under stress or tilted.

22	Position carrier plate of axle support, attach screws (4) and tighten nuts of screws (4) lightly by hand.
23	Lightly tighten screws (5) by hand.	Perform operation steps 23 to 25 in quick succession. Loctite 243	*BR00.45-Z-1066-01A
24	Tighten bolts (4).	Screw, axle support to rear axle housing/carrier plate	*BA35.30-P-1009-02A
25	Tighten screw screw/bolts (5).	Bolt, carrier plate for axle support to portal drive	*BA35.30-P-1010-02A
26	Remove major assembly support.

27	Attach bleed line.	Use new sealing rings.

30	Check oil level at rear axle and correct if necessary.
