  Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A
  Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove complete wheels from rear axle (1) Model 463.234 as of model year 2016 up to model year 2019 with code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42 ) AR40.10-P-1100GWX
2 Drain oil from rear axle (1) into a suitable container If the rear axle (1) is being disassembled.  
3 Unscrew nuts (3) and disconnect propeller shaft (2) from rear axle (1)   AR41.10-P-0050GW
4 Fasten propeller shaft (2) to frame and secure against it falling down    
5 Detach brake lines (15) from bracket (14)    
6 Seal exposed connections with plugs NOTES The hydraulic fluid reservoir for the brake fluid must not be allowed to run empty.
Otherwise difficulties may be encountered when bleeding.

7 Detach brake lines (15) and electrical line (16) for RPM sensor (18) from rear axle (1)    
8 Remove differential lock shift cylinder (10) of rear axle (1) Model 463.234 as of model year 2016 up to model year 2019 with code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42 )
IMPORTANT The electrical line and the hydraulic line remain connected.
AR35.40-P-9131GW 
9 Place differential lock shift cylinder (10) to one side with lines connected and secure to prevent it from falling    
10 Remove axle breather from rear axle (1)    
11 Cut cable tie (19) and detach electrical line (16) for RPM sensor (18) from suspension strut support IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
12 Unscrew bolt (17), pull RPM sensor (18) out of rear axle (1) and place to one side IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
13 Remove retaining bracket (6) for left level sensor (7) of rear axle (1)    
14 Place linkage of left level sensor (7) of rear axle (1) to one side    
15 Unscrew retaining clamp (8) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
16 Detach brake cable of parking brake (9) from brake caliper and from rear axle (1) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
17 Detach screw clamp (4) of brake cable of parking brake (9) from trailing arm (5) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
18 Slacken nut (13) of trailing arm (5) Model 463.234 as of model year 2016 up to model year 2019 with code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42 )
IMPORTANT The trailing arms (5) remain on the vehicle
IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.
AR35.20-P-0100GW 
19 Support rear axle (1) from below and secure to prevent it from falling down    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
20 Counterhold nuts and unscrew bolts (11) with suspension compressed    
21 Remove transverse control arm (12)    
22 Unscrew bolts (20) and detach suspension struts (21) from rear axle (1) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
23 Detach trailing arm (5) from rear axle (1)   AR35.20-P-0100GW 
24 Pull out rear axle (1) towards the rear IMPORTANT Two helpers required.  
INSPECT Check     
25 Check elastomer bearings of trailing arms (5) If a problem arises  
     
    Replace elastomer bearings of trailing arms (5)  
26 Check elastomer bearing of transverse control arm (12) If a problem arises AR35.15-P-0101GW 
     
    Replace elastomer bearing of transverse control arm (12)  
INSTALLING Install     
27 Push rear axle (1) under vehicle from the rear and position in installation location under frame    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
    IMPORTANT Two helpers required.  
28 Lower vehicle or raise rear axle (1) until trailing arms (5) can be attached without tilting    
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 11 62 00 Major assembly mount   WS01.00-P-0092B
REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
29 Attach trailing arm (5) to rear axle (1) and tighten nut (13) IMPORTANT It must be ensured that the elastomer bearings are positioned correctly. AR35.20-P-0100GW 
30 Attach suspension struts (21) to rear axle (1) with bolts (20) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, shock absorber to rear axle *BA32.25-P-1001-03E 
31 Lower vehicle or raise rear axle (1) until bolts (11) can be installed without tilting

REFER TO SPECIAL TOOLS 000 588 10 62 00 Support plate   WS26.00-P-3309B
32 Attach transverse control arm (12) and fit nuts on bolts (11) on frame and on rear axle (1) IMPORTANT The nuts on the bolts (11) may only be tightened when the vehicle is standing on its wheels and the weight is resting on the rear axle (1).  
33 Attach screw clamp (4) of brake cable of parking brake (9) to trailing arm (5) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
34 Attach brake cable of parking brake (9) to brake caliper and to rear axle (1) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
35 Screw on retaining clamp (8) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.  
36 Attach left level sensor linkage (7) with retaining bracket (6) to trailing arm (5)    
37 Install RPM sensor (18) in rear axle (1) and tighten with bolt (17) IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Self-locking bolt, RPM sensor to rear axle
*BA42.30-P-1001-02J 
38 Attach electrical line (16) for RPM sensor (18) to suspension strut support IMPORTANT The cable tie (19) must always be replaced.
IMPORTANT This instruction must be carried out on both sides.
 
39 Attach axle breather to rear axle (1) IMPORTANT The sealing rings must always be replaced.  
40 Install differential lock shift cylinder (10) of rear axle (1)   AR35.40-P-9131GW 
41 Attach brake lines (15) and electrical line (16) for RPM sensor (18) to rear axle (1)    
42 Remove stop plug and attach brake lines (15) to bracket (14) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Brake line to brake hose *BA42.10-P-1001-04B 
    SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2
43 Attach propeller shaft (2) to rear axle (1) and tighten nuts (3)   AR41.10-P-0050GW
44 Fill rear axle with oil If the rear axle (1) is being disassembled or if there is no oil in the rear axle.  
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   Model 463.234 as of model year 2016 up to model year 2019 with code ZQ0 (G 500 4x42 ) AP35.10-P-3510G 
45 Bleed brake system   AR42.10-P-0010GW
46 Install wheel and tire assemblies on rear axle   AR40.10-P-1100GWX
47 Tighten nuts on bolts (11) of transverse control arm (12) on frame and on rear axle (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, transverse control arm to frame *BA35.15-P-1003-02A 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, transverse control arm to axle *BA35.15-P-1004-02A 
INSPECT Check     
48 Check and adjust parking brake on roller dynamometer Adjust parking brake on roller dynamometer AR42.20-P-0550GWX
49 Perform function test on rear axle (1)
