DANGER Risk of injury  caused by performing testing or repair work on airbag or emergency tensioning retractor units. Store airbag units with deployment side facing up; do not expose to temperatures greater than 100°C. When working on these units, disconnect the power supply. AS91.00-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Move driver and passenger front seat toward rear to end position    
2 Position steering wheel rearwards and at the bottom    
3 Disconnect battery ground line   AR54.10-P-0003LW
4 Remove cover below left of instrument panel   AR68.10-P-1500LW 
5 Remove paneling from left and right A-pillars   AR68.30-P-4050LW 
6 Remove left air vent   AR83.10-P-4501LW
7 Remove steering column tube module   AR54.25-P-2802LW
8 Remove instrument cluster   AR54.30-P-6015LW
9 Remove Audio/COMAND display   AR82.60-P-7722LW
10 Remove speaker MODEL 205
with CODE 348 (Emergency call/assistant system)

13 Remove right air vent   AR83.10-P-4502LW
14 Remove glove compartment   AR68.10-P-1400LW 
15 Detach seal (2) in area of cover (3)    
16 Remove cover (3) from instrument panel (1) SPECIAL TOOL Mounting wedge Fig 7
17 Unclip cover (4) from head-up display (A40/12) and remove (arrow A) MODEL 205
with CODE 463 (Head-up display)

NOTES Cover head-up display (A40/12) with new soft rag (e.g. polishing cloth).
Otherwise head-up display (A40/12) can be scratched.
 
19 Remove bolts (5) from instrument panel (1)    
20 Unscrew bolt (30) from passenger airbag (7) TORQUE SPECIFICATION

21.1 Unclip left rear air duct (8) and right rear air duct (9) from instrument panel (1) (arrows B) MODEL 205 with TRANSMISSION 722, 724, 725
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure that left rear air duct (8) and right rear air duct (9) are seated correctly on air conditioner housing (10).
 
21.2 Unhook left rear air duct (28) and right rear air duct (29) from instrument panel (1) (arrows F) MODEL 205 with TRANSMISSION 716
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Hook left rear air duct (28) and right rear air duct (29) into instrument panel (1) and (arrows F) and ensure that it is seated correctly on air conditioner housing (10).
 
22 Unclip wiring harness from instrument panel (1) (arrow C) SPECIAL TOOL Clip remover Fig 8
23 Unlock left fuse and relay module (K40/6) at retaining tabs (11) and swivel out of instrument panel (1) (arrow D) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Insert left fuse and relay module (K40/6) at bottom into instrument panel (1).  
24 Unlock fuse holder (12) on left fuse and relay module (K40/6) (arrows E) and disconnect    
25 Remove fuse holder (13) on left fuse and relay module (K40/6)    
26 Disconnect electrical connector (14) from left fuse and relay module (K40/6)    
27 Remove rear insulation mat from left fuse and relay module (K40/6)    
28 Disconnect electrical connector (16) from exterior lights switch (S1)    
29 Disconnect electrical connector (15) from driver side instrument panel button group (S6/1) MODEL 205
with CODE 235 (Active Parking Assist)

with CODE 238 (Active lane keeping Assist)

with CODE 266 (DISTRONIC PLUS with Steer Assist and Stop & Go Pilot)

30 Disconnect electrical connection (17) from parking brake electrical switch (S76/15)    
31 Disconnect electrical connector (18) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73)    
32 Move electrical line (19) and wiring harness (20) out of instrument panel (1) on left    
33 Move wiring harnesses (21 and 22) out of instrument panel (1) in area of steering column    
34 Unhook Bluetooth® antenna (A2/91) and electrical line (25) from instrument panel (1)    
35 Remove insulation mats in area of center console    
36 Move wiring harnesses (23 and 24) out of instrument panel (1) in area of center console    
37 Guide electrical lines (26) out of instrument panel (1) in upper area    
38 Guide electrical line (27) out of instrument panel (1) at top MODEL 205
with CODE 348 (Emergency call/assistant system)

with CODE 810 (Sound system)
 
39 Pull instrument panel (1) toward rear until electrical connectors (6) on passenger airbag (7) are accessible IMPORTANT Helper required.  
40 Disconnect electrical connectors (6) from passenger airbag (7)    
41 Remove instrument panel (1) and remove through passenger side IMPORTANT Helper required.  
42 Install in the reverse order
