Remove/install oil pan - AR01.45-P-7500GZA (ML350, ML550, GL450, GL550): Notes

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install    
1 Remove oil dipstick guide tube   AR18.40-P-3510GZA
2 Remove oil pan bottom section (11)   AR01.45-P-7555GZA 
3 Remove oil level check switch (S43)   AR18.40-P-5113SX
4 Remove oil suction pipe (13) from oil pump (14) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA18.10-P-1004-01B 
5 Detach oil cooling lines at the transmission TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.55-P-1002-01D

6 Detach vent line for front axle gear Vehicles with 4MATIC
IMPORTANT Clean surrounding area beforehand to prevent dirt from entering.
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.40-P-1001-01E 
7 Detach double hose clamp from right-hand side of oil pan (16) IMPORTANT Only loosen bolt, turn the double clamp by 90° and place the transmission oil cooling lines on the front axle carrier.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.55-P-1004-01D 
8 Detach bracket for transmission oil cooling lines from oil pan (16) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.55-P-1003-01D 
9 Disconnect connector of speed-sensitive power steering Engine 273  
10 Detach steering coupling from steering shaft Engine 273  
11 Lower front axle carrier Engine 273

12 Remove bolts (15) on oil pan (16) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Observe different bolt lengths and bolt diameters as per bolt diagram.

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA01.45-P-1002-01M

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA27.40-P-1002-01E 
13 Detach oil pan (16) from crankcase and remove IMPORTANT If oil pan (16) cannot be detached from the crankcase, heat up the sealing surfaces of the oil pan (16) using a hot air gun. Then slide a SPECIAL TOOL mounting wedge between the sealing surfaces to separate the oil pan (16) from the crankcase.

CLEANING Clean     
14 Clean sealing surfaces on oil pan (16) and oil pan bottom section (11) NOTES Remove sealant residue. Do not use any sharp-edged tools or abrasive paper as this can damage the sealing surfaces.  
    Loctite 7200 *BR00.45-Z-1038-04A 
15 Install in the reverse order    
16 Read out fault memory and erase if necessary IMPORTANT Faults which may have been caused by disconnecting wires or by a simulation must be erased in the fault memory after completing the work.
STAR DIAGNOSIS diagnostic system
 
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes.
Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

17 Check for leaks with engine running    
18 Check engine oil level approx. 5 minutes after switching off engine at operating temperature and adjust to correct level if required NOTES The vehicle must be on a level surface otherwise false measurements will occur.
