REMOVING Remove

1 Remove CD from Audio 20 CD radio    
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns  caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury  caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead-acid batteries No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
2 Disconnect battery ground line   AR54.10-P-0003T
3 Remove left side paneling in trunk For vehicles without code (287) Through-loading feature AR68.30-P-4800T
For vehicles with code (287) Through-loading feature AR68.30-P-4800TA
4 Remove SAM control unit with fuse and relay box in luggage compartment IMPORTANT Do not disconnect electrical connectors. AR54.21-P-1258T
5 Remove Audio 20 CD radio IMPORTANT The Audio 20 CD radio is no longer required. AR82.60-P-7502T
6 Remove instrument cluster   AR54.30-P-6015T
7 Remove left front floor covering   AR68.20-P-2050T
8 Release trim at left B-pillar in lower area until the cable duct is accessible   AR68.30-P-4700T
9.1 Remove rear seat cushion For vehicles without code (287) Through-loading feature AR91.12-P-1020T
9.2 Unlock rear seat cushions and set upright For vehicles with code (287) Through-loading feature  
10 Remove side upholstery of left rear seat backrest    
11 Release rubber door seal in lower area of left rear door    
12 Remove door sill of left rear door sill    
13 Remove cable duct cover on left side of rear seat backrest    
14 Open left cable duct at rear seat    
REMOVING Install     
15 Retrofit antenna for global positioning system (GPS)   AN82.61-P-7474-04TTS 
16 Retrofit new audio gateway control unit for the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3)   AN82.61-P-0001-07TC 
17 Retrofit wiring harness for the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT Vehicles without bass box speaker. AN82.61-P-0001-01TEE 
18 Check whether the fiber optic cable connector (MOST) (X39/50) is installed in the rear cable duct, left next to the rear bench seat.    
19 Retrofit Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) fiber optic cable wiring harness for the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) In vehicles without fiber optic cable connector (MOST) (X39/50). AN82.61-P-0001-06TAD 
In vehicles with fiber optic cable connector (MOST) (X39/50). AN82.61-P-0001-06TAE 
20 Retrofit MOST fiber optic cable wiring harness for CD changer On vehicles with code (819) CD-changer AN82.61-P-0001-06TAZ 
21 Extend fiber optic cable ring with navigation processor (N41/1) components to be retrofitted   AN82.64-P-0001-05TZ 
22 Retrofit wiring harness for navigation processor (N41/1)   AN82.61-P-0001-01TCZ 
23 Retrofitting AM/FM antenna line   AN82.62-P-0001-04TXZ 
24 Install SAM control unit with fuse and relay box into luggage compartment   AR54.21-P-1258T

26 Install side paneling in left side of trunk For vehicles without code (287) Through-loading feature AR68.30-P-4800T

27 Assemble vehicle IMPORTANT Steps 14 to 6.  
28 Install COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT Wrap felt tape around vehicle on-board AM/FM antenna line and on-board fiber optic cable for Audio 20 CD radio and strap down in center console (no longer required). AR82.85-P-1000T
29 Connect ground cable to battery   AR54.10-P-0003T
30 Connect up STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
31 Perform basic programming   AR00.19-P-0200T
32 Flash MOST components that do not have latest software release.   AR54.21-P-0014Y
33 Perform variant coding with STAR DIAGNOSIS to activate the functions of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT The instructions in DAS must be followed.
After completing the variant coding, perform a quick test and delete the fault memory.
 
34 Add special equipment to the vehicle data card and to the online vehicle data card IMPORTANT Delete code (525) MB Audio 50 APS radio and enter code (527) COMAND APS with navigation.
Delete old radio identification number and enter new one.
 
35 Close STAR DIAGNOSIS   AD00.00-P-2000-04A
36 Perform function check of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT See operator's manual of the COMAND operating, display and controller unit (A40/3).
