Engine Removal/Installation - 3.0L

- With the vehicle in NEUTRAL, position it on a hoist. See LIFTING .
- Drain the engine cooling system. See ENGINE COOLANT REPLACEMENT - 3.0L .
- Remove the hood.
- Remove the upper intake manifold. See INTAKE MANIFOLD UPPER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Remove the air cleaner outlet tube. See AIR CLEANER OUTLET TUBE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
.NOTE:
- The fan clutch has left-hand threads.
- Remove the fan clutch and the fan blade as an assembly. See COOLING FAN AND CLUTCH REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Remove the drive belt. See DRIVE BELT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Remove the fan shroud.
- Remove the radiator. See RADIATOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Recover the A/C system. See A/C REFRIGERANT SYSTEM TESTS .
- Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube assembly. See A/C MANIFOLD AND TUBE ASSEMBLY REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Disconnect the A/C manifold and tube assembly at the accumulator.
- Remove the nut and position the suction/discharge line aside.
- Remove the nut.
- Disconnect the A/C compressor wiring.
- Remove the bolt and nut.
- Position A/C compressor and A/C compressor mounting bracket aside as an assembly.Fig 9: Removing A/C Compressor And A/C Compressor Mounting Bracket Bolts - With Torque Specification

- Remove the bolts.
- Set the assembly aside.
- Remove the nut and position the ground cable aside.
- Relieve the fuel system pressure. See FUEL PRESSURE RELIEF .
- Disconnect the fuel lines. See FUEL LINE AND VAPOR LINE QUICK DISCONNECT FITTINGS .
- Disconnect the vacuum line.
- Disconnect the PCM connector.
- Remove the nut from the PCM harness.
- Remove the stud bolt and the PCM ground strap.
- Disconnect the generator wiring and position aside.
- Disconnect both front heated oxygen sensors. See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the transmission harness connectors.
- Disconnect the vacuum line to the vacuum tank reservoir.
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
- Raise the vehicle on a hoist. See LIFTING .
- Remove the left heated oxygen sensor. See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .
- Disconnect the dual converter Y pipe from both exhaust manifolds. See EXHAUST MANIFOLD RIGHT HAND REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L and EXHAUST MANIFOLD LEFT HAND REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L .
- Remove the starter motor and the starter grounding stud bolt. See STARTER MOTOR REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - 3.0L
.NOTE:
- Mark one stud and the flexplate for installation reference.
- Remove the torque converter nuts on automatic transmissions.

- Remove the access plate.
- Remove the four nuts.
- Remove the bolt.
- Remove the eight transmission-to-engine bolts.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Attach engine lifting eyes ST 303-D030 or equivalent.
- Remove the four nuts.
- Support the transmission.
- Remove the engine from the vehicle.
- To install, reverse the removal procedure.
