Removal [11/2017 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL ENGINE ASSEMBLY TO ENGINE STAND 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2017 - ]

  2. REMOVE ENGINE WIRE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 11

  3. REMOVE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY (for High Pressure) 

    Refer to REMOVAL [11/2017 - ]

  4. REMOVE V-RIBBED BELT TENSIONER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  5. REMOVE NO. 2 IDLER PULLEY SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  6. REMOVE WATER PUMP PULLEY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  7. REMOVE NO. 6 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  8. REMOVE NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 13

  9. REMOVE NO. 3 WATER BY-PASS HOSE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 14

  10. REMOVE NO. 2 WATER BY-PASS HOSE ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  11. REMOVE WATER INLET WITH THERMOSTAT SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  12. REMOVE WATER OUTLET SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 12

  13. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL SOLENOID ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 1) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 7

  14. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL SOLENOID ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side of Bank 1) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 8

  15. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL SOLENOID ASSEMBLY (for Intake Side of Bank 2) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 9

  16. REMOVE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL SOLENOID ASSEMBLY (for Exhaust Side of Bank 2) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 10

  17. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. for 2WD:

        Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from oil filter bracket sub-assembly.

    2. Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from cylinder head cover sub-assembly LH.

    3. Remove the bolt and wire harness clamp bracket from timing chain cover assembly.

    4. Remove the nut and wire harness clamp bracket from timing chain cover assembly.

  18. REMOVE OIL FILTER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. for 2WD:
      1. Remove the 2 bolts, 2 nuts, oil filter bracket sub-assembly and gasket.

    2. for AWD:
      1. Remove the bolt, nut and No. 1 oil filter bracket from the cooler compressor with magnet clutch assembly and oil filter bracket sub-assembly.

      2. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, oil filter bracket sub-assembly and gasket.

  19. REMOVE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  20. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the 2 clips and No. 1 engine cover from the cylinder head cover sub-assembly.

  21. REMOVE IGNITION COIL ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  22. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 20

  23. REMOVE CYLINDER HEAD COVER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 21

  24. REMOVE SPARK PLUG TUBE GASKET 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 22

  25. REMOVE NO. 2 OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 24

  26. REMOVE OIL PIPE WITH STRAINER SUB-ASSEMBLY (for AWD) 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 25

  27. REMOVE ENGINE OIL LEVEL SENSOR 

    See step  5

  28. REMOVE OIL LEVEL SENSOR BRACKET 

    See step  6

  29. REMOVE OIL PAN SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 28

  30. REMOVE OIL STRAINER SUB-ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 29

  31. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER PLATE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 26

  32. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN COVER ASSEMBLY

      Bolt
      Nut

      w/ Stud Bolt:

      1. Remove the 26 bolts and 2 nuts shown in the illustration.
    2. w/o Stud Bolt:

      1. Remove the 28 bolts shown in the illustration.
    3. Remove the timing chain cover assembly by prying between the timing chain cover assembly and cylinder head sub-assembly or cylinder block sub-assembly with a screwdriver.

      NOTE:

      Be careful not to damage the contact surfaces of the cylinder head sub-assembly, cylinder block sub-assembly and timing chain cover assembly.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.

    4. Remove the oil pump gasket from the cylinder block sub-assembly.

  33. REMOVE TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL 
    1. Using a screwdriver and wooden block, pry out the timing chain case oil seal.

      *a Wooden Block
      NOTE:

      Do not damage the surface of the oil seal press fit hole.

      HINT: 

      Tape the screwdriver tip before use.
