Engine And 948TE

REMOVAL 

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Perform the fuel pressure release procedure. Refer to FUEL SYSTEM PRESSURE RELEASE .
  3. Remove the battery and battery tray. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  4. Remove the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  5. Remove the air filter cold air intake tube. Refer to TUBE, INTAKE AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  6. Remove the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  7. Remove the clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  8. Remove the turbocharger air intake tube. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  9. Remove the turbocharger air outlet hose. Refer to COOLER AND HOSES, CHARGE AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  10. Remove the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  11. Drain the engine coolant system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING THE COOLING SYSTEM - 1.3L .
  12. Recover the A/C refrigerant. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  13. Remove the front wheels. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  14. Remove the left and right halfshafts. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  15. Remove the front wheel splash shields. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  16. Remove the exhaust pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  17. Remove the cooling fan module. Refer to FAN, COOLING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  18. Remove the A/C suction line. Refer to LINE, A/C SUCTION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  19. Remove the A/C discharge line. Refer to LINE, A/C DISCHARGE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  20. Remove the bolts (1a) and remove the right and left lower load beams (1b).

  21. Open the intermediate retaining clips (1) and release the multi-way coolant hoses.

  22. Loosen the band clamp (1a) and remove the coolant hose (1b) from the auxiliary water pump (1c).

  23. Loosen the band clamp (1a) and remove the thermostat to engine coolant reservoir degassing hose (1b).
  24. Loosen the band clamp (2a) and remove the turbocharger coolant supply hose (2b) from the rigid pipe.

  25. Loosen the band clamp (1) and remove the lower radiator hose, coolant reservoir and multi-way coolant hose.

  26. Lift the locking clip and disconnect the multi-way coolant hose quick coupling (1).
  27. Open the intermediate retaining clip and release the multi-way coolant hose (2).

  28. Open the intermediate retaining clips (1) and release the coolant hoses.

  29. Remove the bolt (1) and the battery ground cable.

  30. Disconnect the quick couplings (1a) and remove the supply and return hoses (1b) from the heater core.

  31. Disconnect the engine wire harness in-line connector (1).
  32. Disconnect the PTU wire harness connector (2).

  33. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum air pipe quick coupling (1) from the vacuum pump.
  34. Open the clip (2) and release the pipe.

  35. Disconnect the fuel supply pipe quick connector (1) from the high pressure fuel pump.

  36. Disconnect the fuel vapor pipe quick connector (1).
  37. Release the fuel supply pipe (2a) from the retaining clips (2b).

  38. Disconnect the gear selection cable end (1).
  39. Retract the locking slider (2) and release the gear selection cable from the bracket.

  40. Disengage the retaining clip and disconnect the automatic transmission control unit wire harness connector (1).

  41. Open the wiring retaining clips.
  42. Disconnect the oxygen sensor wire harness connector (1).
  43. Turn the ring nut (2) and disconnect the automatic transmission valve assembly wire harness connector.

  44. Fit the protective ring (1) as shown in illustration to protect the coupling from excessive bending.
    NOTE:

    The protective ring is supplied with the replacement dust boot and the snap ring that must be replaced every time the propeller shaft is disconnected.

  45. Retract the dust boot (1).
    NOTE:

    The dust boot must be replaced every time the propeller shaft is disconnected.

  46. With the 2019500030 tool (1) open the propeller shaft snap ring.
    NOTE:

    The snap ring must be replaced every time the propeller shaft is disconnected.

  47. Operate the hydraulic lift to move the engine forward as far as the flexibility of the right and left engine mount allows.
  48. Remove the propeller shaft (1) from the PTU and secure it to the suspension crossmember.

  49. Raise and position vehicle height to allow Power Train Dolly (Special Tool No. 6135, Dolly, Power Train) (3) and Engine Support Cradle (Special Tool No. 6710A, Cradle, Engine Support) (2) to be installed under the engine/transaxle assembly.
  50. Loosen the cradle engine mounts to allow movement for positioning onto the engine locating holes on the engine block and oil pan rail. Place Adapter (Special Tool No. 6848-3, Adapter) (1) on the front post and align to the oil pan mounting stud. Lower the vehicle and position cradle until the engine is resting on the posts. Tighten the post mounts to the cradle frame. Secure the engine/transaxle assembly to the dolly/cradle with safety straps (4).
  51. Remove the left engine mount. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, LEFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  52. Remove the right engine mount. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  53. Raise the vehicle off of the engine and transmission assembly.

  1. Position vehicle height to allow the Power Train Dolly (3), cradle (2) and engine to be installed into the engine compartment. Slowly lower the vehicle to allow it to clear the powertrain assembly.
  2. Install the right engine mount assembly. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, RIGHT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  3. Install the left engine mount assembly. Refer to INSULATOR, ENGINE MOUNT, LEFT, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  4. Install the propeller shaft snap ring.
  5. Install a new dust boot on the propeller shaft.
  6. Connect the propeller shaft to the PTU by engaging the new retaining snap ring.
  7. Position the new dust boot on the propeller shaft front coupling.
  8. Remove the protection ring from the propeller shaft central coupling.
  9. Connect the automatic transmission valve unit wire harness connector.
  10. Connect the automatic transmission control unit wire harness connector and engage the retaining clip.
  11. Engage the gear selection cable in the reaction bracket and secure the locking slider.
  12. Connect the gear selection cable end.
  13. Connect the fuel vapor pipe.
  14. Engage the fuel supply pipe in the retaining clips.
  15. Connect the fuel delivery pipe quick coupling to the high pressure fuel pump.
  16. Connect the brake booster vacuum air pipe quick coupling to the vacuum pump.
  17. Engage the brake booster vacuum air pipe in the retaining clip.
  18. Connect the PTU wire harness connector.
  19. Connect the engine wire harness in-line connector and engage the wiring with the retaining clip.
  20. Connect the heater core supply and return hose quick couplings.
  21. Install the battery ground cable and securely tighten the bolt.
  22. Connect the multi-way coolant hose quick coupling and engage the locking clip.
  23. Secure the multi-way coolant hose in the intermediate retaining clip.
  24. Position the coolant reservoir and multi-way coolant hose between coolant tank, radiator and coolant pump.
  25. Secure the pipes to the intermediate retaining clips.
  26. Install the lower radiator hose and tighten the band clamp.
  27. Install the turbocharger coolant supply hose to the rigid pipe and tighten the band clamp.
  28. Install the thermostat to engine coolant reservoir degassing hose and tighten the band clamp.
  29. Install the coolant hose to the auxiliary water pump and tighten the band clamp.
  30. Install the right and left lower load beams and tighten the bolts to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  31. Install the A/C discharge line. Refer to LINE, A/C DISCHARGE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  32. Install the A/C suction line. Refer to LINE, A/C SUCTION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  33. Install the cooling fan module. Refer to FAN, COOLING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  34. Install the exhaust pipe. Refer to PIPE, EXHAUST, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  35. Install the front wheel splash shields. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, FRONT WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  36. Install the left and right halfshafts. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  37. Install the front wheels. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  38. Install the turbocharger air outlet hose. Refer to COOLER AND HOSES, CHARGE AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  39. Install the turbocharger air intake tube. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  40. Install the clean air hose. Refer to HOSE, CLEAN AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  41. Install the air cleaner body. Refer to BODY, AIR CLEANER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  42. Install the air filter cold air intake tube. Refer to TUBE, INTAKE AIR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  43. Evacuate and charge the A/C refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  44. Fill the engine coolant system. Refer to DRAINING AND FILLING THE COOLING SYSTEM - 1.3L .
  45. Fill the transmission. Refer to FLUID AND FILTER, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  46. If removed, install the oil filter and fill the engine crankcase with the proper oil to the correct level. Refer to CAPACITIES AND RECOMMENDED FLUIDS, SPECIFICATIONS .
  47. Install the battery tray and battery. Refer to TRAY, BATTERY, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  48. Install the engine cover. Refer to COVER, ENGINE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION  .
  49. Install the belly pan. Refer to BELLY PAN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  50. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
