Removal Procedure

- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
- Recover the refrigerant. Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf) .
- Remove the radiator inlet hose. Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
- Remove the radiator outlet hose. Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
- Disconnect the charge air coolant hose from the supercharger water manifold. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement - Pump to Manifold (LF4) .
- Disconnect the charge air coolant hose - engine to radiator from the supercharger water manifold. Charge Air Cooler Coolant Hose Replacement - Radiator to Manifold (LF4) .
- Disconnect the radiator surge tank hose from the water outlet and position aside. Radiator Surge Tank Inlet Hose Replacement (LF4) .
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement (LF4) .
- Remove the 4 fasteners (1) for the transmission shift control assembly.
- Remove the front compartment fuse block. Front Compartment Fuse Block Housing Replacement (With Out KlL9)Front Compartment Fuse Block Housing Replacement (With KL9) .
- Remove the battery terminals (1) from the jump start post junction block.
- Disconnect the ECM connectors (2).
- Remove the engine control module bracket. Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement (LF4)
- Reposition the engine harness (3) on the engine.
- Disconnect the heater inlet hose from the heater core tube.
- Disconnect the heater outlet hose from the heater core tube.
- Disconnect the heater outlet to surge tank hose.
- Remove the plenum front panel. Plenum Front Panel Replacement
- Disconnect the fuel feed line quick connect from the fuel feed pipe. Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service .
- Disconnect the evaporative emission purge solenoid hose.
- Disconnect the vacuum booster check valve (1) from the vacuum booster.
- Using mechanics wire, support the radiator assembly to the vehicle body.
- Remove the air cleaner outlet duct. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement (LF4)
- Disconnect the A/C lines from the compressor. Position the lines aside.
- Disconnect and reposition harnesses as necessary.
- Disconnect the transmission fluid cooler lines from the radiator. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LF4 With MG9)Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet and Outlet Pipe Replacement (LF4 With M5U) .
- Remove the front wheelhouse splash shield. Front Wheelhouse Splash Shield Replacement (Rear Wheel Drive) .
- Remove the mid line left and right transmission cooler pipes. - Disconnect the electronic suspension wiring harness connector and detach harness from the front strut assembly and cradle.
- Remove the propeller shaft from the transmission. Two-Piece Propeller Shaft Replacement (LF4)
- Disconnect the oil cooler inlet (2) and oil cooler outlet (3) hoses from the engine oil cooler.
- Remove the catalytic converter(s). Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LF4) , and Catalytic Converter Replacement - Right Side (LF4) .
- Disconnect the hydraulic clutch hose/pipe from the clutch slave cylinder. Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement (M3L)Hydraulic Clutch Hose/Pipe Replacement (MG9)
- Secure the vehicle body to the vehicle hoist using suitable straps or binders.
- Remove the drivetrain and front suspension cradle with the powertrain attached. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement (LF4) .
- Lower the powertrain onto a suitable support table.
- Secure the powertrain to the support table using straps and binders.
- With the aid of an assistant, carefully raise the body from the frame.
- Ensure when raising the body the following items are clear from the frame:
- Vacuum lines
- Steering knuckles
- Electrical wiring harnesses
- Oil cooler lines
- Separate the engine from the transmission. Transmission Replacement (M3L)Transmission Replacement (MG9) .
- Disconnect electrical connectors as necessary.
NOTE:
Removing the powertrain assembly from the vehicle could cause an unstable balance condition with the vehicle body on the vehicle hoist. Securing the vehicle body to the hoist is necessary.
NOTE:
The powertrain assembly will be removed from vehicle on the drivetrain and front suspension frame. In the next step, only perform the necessary procedures required to remove the powertrain assembly.
