In most circumstances the TCM sets a DTC to help guide with diagnostics. Refer to the DTC Chart before using the Symptom Chart. The Condition column lists the vehicle condition. The Action column refers to a pinpoint test. Each pinpoint test lists the possible symptoms and the components that can cause each symptom. The components are listed in order of disassembly.

| NVH in park, neutral, reverse, 2nd, 4th, and/or 6th gear | GO to Pinpoint Test B |
| Clicking, ticking, or grinding noise when shifting into any gear | GO to Pinpoint Test C |
| External fluid leaks | GO to Pinpoint Test D |
| Clutch shudder on acceleration | GO to Pinpoint Test E |
| Rattle during light acceleration from a low speed in any gear | GO to Pinpoint Test F |
| Coast down grinding noise | GO to Pinpoint Test G |
