System Tests: Notes

NOTE: Procedures were written specifically for use with Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) or Next Generation Star (NGS) tester. Other generic scan tools can be used, but they may have may have limited functions and operations.
NOTE: Metallic objects and encoded devices on a key ring may interfere with PATS, causing a no-start condition and setting DTCs. If fault cannot be identified, remove ignition key from key ring and attempt to start vehicle.

Symptom Perform Test
No Communication With Instrument Cluster A 
Theft Indicator Light Is Always/Never On - No 3 Second Delay Or No Theft Indicator Light Prove Out B 
Vehicle Starts, THEFT Indicator Flashes With Ignition On C 
Vehicle Does Not Start, THEFT Indicator Proves Out Normally (1)
(1) Perform instrument cluster self-test. If DTCs exist, diagnose instrument cluster concern. See ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - F150 PICKUP or ANALOG INSTRUMENT PANELS - BLACKWOOD article. If no DTCs exist, check for other causes of no start condition.
