Test C: Anti-Theft Number Of Programmed Keys Is Below Minimum

- Turn ignition switch to LOCK position. Connect Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) or New Generation Star (NGS) tester to Data Link Connector (DLC). DLC is located below center of instrument panel, right of steering column. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Using NGS tester, retrieve instrument cluster Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs). If only DTC B1213 exists, go to next step. If any other DTCs exist, perform appropriate DTC test before proceeding with this test. - Using NGS tester, monitor instrument cluster PID NUMKEYS. If NGS tester indicates less than 2 programmed ignition keys, go to next step. If PID does not indicate less than 2 programmed ignition keys, system is functioning properly at this time.
- Obtain NEW encoded ignition key and insert into ignition lock cylinder. Turn ignition switch to RUN position. Program NEW encoded ignition key. See PROGRAMMING WITHOUT USING 2 PROGRAMMED KEYS under PROGRAMMING. If THEFT indicator is on continuously, go to next step. If THEFT indicator illuminates for 3 seconds and then goes out, clear DTCs and perform self-test. Verify no DTCs exist.
- Repeat step 3 with a different encoded ignition key. If THEFT indicator is flashing, retrieve DTCs and perform appropriate test. See INSTRUMENT CLUSTER DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE INDEX table under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If THEFT indicator illuminates for 3 seconds and then goes out, clear DTCs and perform self-test. Verify no DTCs exist.
