Installation Procedure

  1. Remove the engine from the engine stand.
  2. Combine the engine with the transmission and tighten upper bolts (1) and nut (2) to 58 N.m (43 lb ft). Refer to Transmission Replacement (With 1.0L Engine)Transmission Replacement (With 1.4L Engine) .

    CAUTION: Refer to Fastener Caution .
  3. Install the transmission side cover (2).

  4. Install the transmission lower bolt (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).
  5. Install the transmission rear mount bracket. Refer to Transmission Rear Mount Bracket Replacement .
  6. Install the both front wheel drive shafts (1) from the transmission. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .

  7. Install the radiator. Refer to Radiator Replacement
  8. Install the air conditioning compressor and condenser hose. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor and Condenser Hose Replacement .
  9. Install the radiator outlet hose. Refer to Radiator Outlet Hose Replacement .
  10. Install the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
  11. Install the air cleaner outlet duct (1) from the engine assembly.

  12. Install the battery positive cable assembly and body master harness wiring assembly (1) from the engine assembly.

  13. Install the engine master harness wiring assembly (1) from the engine assembly.

  14. With the aid of an assistant, raise the table and/or lower the vehicle to install the engine, transmission and cradle assembly to the vehicle.
  15. Install the transmission mount bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft) + 60 - 75 degrees.

  16. Install the engine mount bolts (1) and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft) + 60 - 75 degrees.

  17. Using the CH-51034  cradle alignment guide pins (1), have an assistant vertically insert and hold the pins through the front suspension cradle and floor panel.

  18. Install the cradle front washers (2) and bolts (1) and cradle rear washers (4) and bolts (3) and tighten the cradle front and rear bolts to 120 N.m (89 lb ft) + 30 - 45 degrees.

  19. Install the cradle bracket bolts (1) and tighten to 26 N.m (19 lb ft).

  20. Connect the clutch actuator cylinder front pipe (2) to the clutch actuator cylinder pipe elbow.

  21. Install the retaining clip (1).
  22. Install the front upper stabilizer shaft link nut (1) to the front upper stabilizer shaft link (2) and tighten to 70 N.m (52 lb ft). Repeat for opposite side.

  23. Install the control arm ball joint to the steering knuckle. Repeat for opposite side. Refer to Lower Control Arm Replacement .
  24. Install the wheel drive shaft nut and washer to the wheel drive shaft. Repeat for opposite side. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement .
  25. Connect the outer tie rod assembly from the steering knuckle. Repeat for opposite side. Refer to Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement .
  26. Remove the heavy mechanics wire or equivalent support from the brake caliper.

    CAUTION: Make sure the brake hose is not twisted or kinked after installation. Damage to the hose could result.
  27. Install the lower brake caliper guide pin bolts (1) and tighten to 28 N.m (21 lb ft).
  28. Attach the brake hose (2) to the strut mounted brake hose retaining bracket. Repeat for opposite side.
  29. Install the air conditioning evaporator hose assembly bolt (1) to the air conditioning compressor and air conditioning evaporator hose assembly nut (2) to the condenser. Install the air conditioning evaporator hose assembly (3, 4). Refer to Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Assembly Replacement (L5Q)Air Conditioning Evaporator Hose Assembly Replacement (LV7) .

  30. Install the radiator air lower baffle 5 retainers (1) and the radiator air lower baffle (2). Refer to Radiator Air Lower Baffle Replacement .

  31. Install the radiator air upper baffle and deflector 6 retainers (1) and the radiator air upper baffle and deflector (2). Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement .

  32. Install the surge tank fixing bolts and tighten to 5 N.m (44 lb in).

  33. Install the front bumper fascia. Refer to Front Bumper Fascia Replacement .
  34. Connect the evaporative emission pipe fitting (1) from the evaporative emission canister purge solenoid valve.

  35. Connect the fuel feed pipe fitting (1) from the fuel rail.

  36. Install the brake booster vacuum pipe (1) from the vacuum pump.

  37. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
  38. Connect the heater outlet hose. Refer to Heater Outlet Hose Replacement .
  39. Connect the heater inlet hose. Refer to Heater Inlet Hose Replacement .
  40. Install the exhaust muffler. Refer to Exhaust Muffler Replacement (L5Q)Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LV7) .
  41. Lower the vehicle.
  42. Install the shift lever and selector lever cable (2) to the selector and shift lever cable bracket (4).

  43. Install the shift lever and selector lever cable (1) to the shift control housing (3).
  44. Install the wiring harness (2) and ground bolt. Tighten to 9 N.m (80 lb in).

  45. Install the fuse block. Refer to Fuse Block Replacement .
  46. Install the engine wiring harness fuse block cover.

  47. Install the steering gear dashboard inner seal by turning the seal (1).

    NOTE: The recess of the fine tooth in the universal joint have to be precisely aligned to the recess of the fine tooth on the steering gear pinion. The bore in the universal joint have to be aligned to the groove on the steering gear pinion.
  48. Connect the intermediate steering shaft (3) to the steering gear pinion shaft.
  49. Install the intermediate steering shaft lower bolt (2) and tighten to 34 N.m (25 lb ft).
  50. Install the battery tray. Refer to Battery Tray Replacement (without Engine Block Heater)Battery Tray Replacement (with Engine Block Heater) .
  51. Install the battery. Refer to Battery Replacement .
  52. Install the engine control module. Refer to Engine Control Module Replacement .
  53. Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement .
  54. Install the front wheels and tires. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation .
  55. Recharge the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-134a)Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (R-1234yf) .
  56. Refill the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling .
  57. Check the oil level and fill NEW engine oil up if necessary.
  58. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  59. Close the hood.
