Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Ensure that the vehicle is properly supported and squarely positioned. Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle .
    WARNING: Do not use a service jack in locations other than those specified to lift this vehicle. Lifting the vehicle with a jack in those other locations could cause the vehicle to slip off the jack and roll; this could cause injury or death.
    WARNING:

    Always perform the High Voltage Disabling procedure prior to servicing any High Voltage component or connection. Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.

    The High Voltage Disabling procedure will perform the following tasks:

    • Identify how to disable high voltage.
    • Identify how to test for the presence of high voltage.
    • Identify condition under which high voltage is always present and personal protection equipment (PPE) and proper procedures must be followed.

    Failure to follow the procedures exactly as written may result in serious injury or death.

  2. Disable the high voltage system and disconnect the A4 Hybrid/EV Battery Pack high voltage harness connector at the T6 Power Inverter Module. Refer to High Voltage Disabling
  3. Set the parking brake.
  4. Remove the range selector lever cable from the transmission. Range Selector Lever Cable Replacement

  5. Drive Motor Generator Power Inverter Module Cooling System Draining and Filling - Drain
  6. Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LFV)Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LTG)Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement (LKN) - Remove
  7. Drive Motor Battery Radiator Surge Tank Replacement - Remove
  8. Drive Motor Generator Control Module Coolant Pump Hose Replacement (Pump to Aux Radiator) (1) - Remove
  9. Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Cooling Inlet Hose Replacement (Drive Motor Bat Rad Surge Tank To Pump)Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Cooling Inlet Hose Replacement (Trans Pipe to Aux Radiator) (1) - Remove
  10. Drain the transmission fluid. Refer to Transmission Fluid Drain and Fill 
  11. Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (LFV With MHN)Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE) (1) - Remove
  12. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement (LFV With MHN)Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE) (1) - Remove
  13. Ground Cable Bolt (1) - Remove

  15. Ground Cable Bolt (1) - Remove [2x]

  16. Wiring Harness Bracket (2) - Remove
  17. Engine support fixture - Install
  18. Remove the transmission mount (5). Refer to Transmission Mount Replacement

  19. Heater Inlet Hose Bracket Bolt (1) - Remove

  20. Heater Inlet Hose Bracket (2) - Remove
  21. Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement - Remove
  22. Remove the left front wheel drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side (MKE)Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side (MNH)Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Left Side (M3E)
  23. Remove the right front wheel drive shaft. Refer to Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (LFV, LKN)Front Wheel Drive Half Shaft Replacement - Right Side (LTG)
  24. Remove the 3 transmission bolts (1).

  25. Heater Coolant Pump Replacement (LFV)Heater Coolant Pump Replacement (LKN) - Remove
  26. Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove

  27. Starter opening cover bolts (2) - Remove [2x]

  28. Remove the starter opening cover (1).
  29. Remove the four input drive flange bolts (1).

  30. Support the transmission with a suitable jack.
  31. Using a suitable straps or chains, secure the transmission to the transmission jack.
  32. Remove the transmission bolts. (1) [2x]

  33. Transmission Cover (2) - Remove
  34. Remove the ground cable retaining bolt (1), then position the cable out of the way.

  35. Remove the transmission bolts. (1) [2x]

  36. Transmission Bolt (1) - Remove

    NOTE: This is the last transmission bolt.
  37. Carefully lower the transmission along with the jack, closely watching hoses and wiring harnesses to not disturb.
  38. Ensure the transmission locating pins (1) are properly seated in the engine block and not damaged.
