Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief
  2. Recover the refrigerant. Refer to Refrigerant Recovery and Recharging (LKN)
  3. Disable the high voltage system. Refer to High Voltage Disabling
  4. Drain the cooling system. Refer to Cooling System Draining and Filling (Static)Cooling System Draining and Filling (GE 47716)
  5. Drain the drive motor generator power inverter module cooling system. Refer to Drive Motor Generator Power Inverter Module Cooling System Draining and Filling
  6. Air Cleaner Assembly - Remove Air Cleaner Assembly Replacement
  7. Air Cleaner Outlet Duct - Remove Air Cleaner Outlet Duct Replacement
  8. Intake Manifold Cover (1) - Remove Intake Manifold Cover Replacement

  9. Fuel Feed Front Pipe @ Fuel Injection Pump - Disconnect Fuel Feed Front Pipe Replacement
  10. Evaporative Emission Canister Vent Front Pipe @ Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Solenoid Valve - Disconnect Evaporative Emission Front Pipe Replacement
  11. Heater Inlet Hose (2) @ Water Outlet - Disconnect Heater Inlet Hose Replacement (LKN)

  19. Engine Control Module Bracket - Remove Engine Control Module Bracket Replacement

  21. Engine Wiring Harness Retainer (1) - Disconnect [2x]
  22. Wiring Harness Connector (1) @ Engine Wiring Harness Junction Block - Remove

  23. Wiring Harness Connector (2) - Disconnect [2x]
  24. Ground Cable Nut (3) - Remove
  25. Engine Wiring Harness Clip Nut (4) - Remove
  26. Engine Wiring Harness (5) - Reposition
    NOTE: Reposition the wiring harness to the top of the engine.
  27. Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Coolant Pipe - Remove Drive Motor Power Inverter Module Coolant Pipe Replacement (LKN)
  28. Raise the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle
  29. Front Wheelhouse Liner - Left Side - Remove Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement
  30. Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe (2) @ Transmission - Remove Transmission Fluid Cooler Outlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE)

    NOTE: Cover or plug all open transmission fluid cooler pipe connection points to help avoid any accidental contamination.
  31. Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe (2) @ Transmission - Remove Transmission Fluid Cooler Inlet Pipe Replacement (LKN With MKE)

    NOTE: Cover or plug all open transmission fluid cooler pipe connection points to help avoid any accidental contamination.
  32. Exhaust Front Pipe - Remove Exhaust Front Pipe Replacement (LKN)
  33. Stabilizer Shaft Link (2) @ Stabilizer Shaft - Disconnect [2x]

    NOTE: Reposition the generator control module coolant pump and bracket away from the frame after removing bolts.
  37. Intermediate Steering Shaft @ Steering Gear - Disconnect Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement

  38. Position an engine support table under the powertrain assembly.
    NOTE: During the powertrain removal support the vehicle body by placing a jack at the rear of the vehicle.
  39. Blocks of wood can be used between the front of the frame and the oil pan to table and between the transmission and frame in order to level the powertrain during the removal.
  40. With the table positioned, fully raise the table to contact with the powertrain assembly.
  41. Transmission Mount Bolt (4) Remove and DISCARD [3x] Transmission Mount Replacement

  42. Engine Mount Bolt (1) - Remove and DISCARD [3x] Engine Mount Replacement

  43. Remove the frame to body bolts. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Cradle Replacement
    NOTE: Remove ONLY the body to frame bolts as the powertrain will be removed while still bolted to the frame.
  44. Disconnect remaining electrical connectors and hoses as necessary.
  45. Carefully lower the engine table and raise the body on the hoist until the engine/transaxle and frame are separated from the vehicle.
    NOTE: Ensure that all hoses, harnesses and pipes clear when raising the body.
  46. Separate the engine from the transmission. Refer to Transmission Replacement
  47. Install the engine to a suitable engine stand.
  48. Transfer parts as needed.
