Removal Procedure

- Remove the front frame. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement .
- Remove the bolt (1) and the left rear transmission cover (2) and the bolt from the right side transmission cover.
- Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (LSA, LS3, L99) .
- Remove the engine oil cooler. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Replacement (L99, LSA, LS3) .
- If equipped, remove the A/C lines from the compressor and reposition to access the harness and bolts. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LS3, L99)Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LSA) .
- Detach the transmission cooler lines from the oil and position aside. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (LS3, L99)Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (LSA) .
- Detach wiring harness from the oil pan as necessary.
- Remove the bolts from the bell housing to the oil pan (1).
- Remove the oil pan bolts (1 and 2).
- Remove the oil pan (3) from the engine block.
- DO NOT allow foreign material to enter the oil passages of the oil pan. Cap or cover the openings, as required.
- Use care not to gouge, score, or damage the oil pan sealing surface.
- Drill (2) out the oil pan gasket retaining rivets (1), if required.
- Remove the gasket (426) from the pan.
- Discard the gasket and rivets.
