Removal Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Remove the front frame. Refer to Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement .

  2. Remove the bolt (1) and the left rear transmission cover (2) and the bolt from the right side transmission cover.
  3. Remove the oil filter. Refer to Engine Oil and Oil Filter Replacement (LSA, LS3, L99) .
  4. Remove the engine oil cooler. Refer to Engine Oil Cooler Replacement (L99, LSA, LS3) .
  5. If equipped, remove the A/C lines from the compressor and reposition to access the harness and bolts. Refer to Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LS3, L99)Air Conditioning Compressor Hose Replacement (LSA) .
  6. Detach the transmission cooler lines from the oil and position aside. Refer to Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (LS3, L99)Transmission Fluid Cooler Hose/Pipe Replacement (LSA) .
  7. Detach wiring harness from the oil pan as necessary.

  8. Remove the bolts from the bell housing to the oil pan (1).

  9. Remove the oil pan bolts (1 and 2).
  10. Remove the oil pan (3) from the engine block.

    NOTE:
    • DO NOT allow foreign material to enter the oil passages of the oil pan. Cap or cover the openings, as required.
    • Use care not to gouge, score, or damage the oil pan sealing surface.
  11. Drill (2) out the oil pan gasket retaining rivets (1), if required.
  12. Remove the gasket (426) from the pan.
  13. Discard the gasket and rivets.
  14. For cleaning and inspection, refer to Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection (LSA)Oil Pan Cleaning and Inspection (LS3 or L99) .
