Diagnostic System Check

NOTE: DTCs that begin with "U" indicate some other module is not communicating.
  1. Connect scan tool to DLC. If scan tool powers up, go to next step. If scan tool does not power up, see appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  2. Turn ignition switch on, with engine off. Attempt to establish communication with the following modules:
    • Electronic Suspension Control Module (ESC or CVRSS)
    • Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
    • Rear Integration Module (RIM)
If scan tool communicates with any of the modules, go to next step. If scan tool does not communicate with any of the modules listed, see appropriate BODY CONTROL MODULES article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT.
  3. Select display DTCs function on scan tool for the following modules:
    • Electronic Suspension Control Module (ESC or CVRSS)
    • Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
    • Rear Integration Module (RIM)
If scan tool displays any DTCs, go to next step. If scan tool does not display any DTCs, check for intermittent and poor connections in wiring system. See NOTES ON INTERMITTENTS  .
  4. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "U", see appropriate MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article in ACCESSORIES & EQUIPMENT. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "U", go to next step.
  5. If scan tool displays any PCM DTCs, see DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table. If scan tool does not display any PCM DTCs, go to next step.
  6. If scan tool displays any EBCM DTCs, see appropriate ANTI-LOCK/TCS article. If scan tool does not display any EBCM DTCs, go to next step.
  7. If scan tool displays DTC C0550, go to DTC C0550: CONTROL MODULE MALFUNCTION  . If scan tool does not display DTC C0550, go to next step.
  8. If scan tool displays DTC C0563, go to DTC C0563: CALIBRATION ROM CHECKSUM ERROR  . If scan tool does not display DTC C0563, go to next step.
  9. If scan tool displays DTC C0695 or C0696, go to DTC C0695 OR C0696: POSITION SENSOR OVERCURRENT  . If scan tool does not display DTC C0695 or C0696, go to next step.
  10. If scan tool displays DTC C0896, go to DTC C0896: DEVICE VOLTAGE RANGE/PERFORMANCE  . If scan tool does not display DTC C0896, go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE DEFINITIONS  table.
