Test A: No RSS Data, Loss Of Serial Communication Or Power (2000 Models)

  1. Perform diagnostic system check. See DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK  . After performing diagnostic system check, go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition switch off. Check 10-amp RSS fuse (ignition fuse) in rear compartment fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to step  11 . If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  3. Check 10-amp RSS fuse (battery fuse) in rear compartment fuse block. If fuse is blown, go to step  12 . If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  4. Check for an open in control module ground circuit (Black wire). If an open was found and repaired, go to step  16 . If an open was not found, go to next step.
  5. Using a DVOM, measure voltage in battery positive voltage circuit (Orange wire) of control module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step  7 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  6. Locate and repair open in Orange wire. When repair is complete, go to step  16 .
  7. Using DVOM, measure voltage in ignition positive voltage circuit (Brown wire) of control module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If voltage is more than 10 volts, go to step  9 . If voltage is less than 10 volts, go to next step.
  8. Locate and repair open in Brown wire. When repair is complete, go to step  16 .
  9. Check for an open, short to ground or short to voltage in class 2 serial data line circuit (Purple wire). If a short or an open was found and repaired, go to step  16 . If a short or an open was not found, go to next step.
  10. If scan tool displays any DTCs that begin with "P", see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PEFORMANCE. If scan tool does not display any DTCs that begin with "P", go to next step.
  11. Check for a short to ground in ignition positive voltage circuit (Brown wire) of control module. If a short to ground was found and repaired, go to step  15 . If a short to ground was not found, go to step  13 .
  12. Check for a short to ground in the battery positive voltage circuit (Orange wire) of control module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If a short to ground was found and repaired, go to step  15 . If a short to ground was not found, go to next step.
  13. Check for a short to ground in the ignition positive voltage circuit (Brown wire) of control module. See WIRING DIAGRAMS  . If a short to ground was found and repaired, go to step  15 . If a short to ground was not found, go to next step.
  14. Replace control module. See ESC/CVRSS CONTROL MODULE  under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If replacement is complete, go to step  16 .
  15. Replace affected fuse. If replacement is complete, go to next step.
  16. Using scan tool, clear DTCs. Operate vehicle under normal driving conditions. If DTC resets, go to step  2 . If DTC did not reset, system is okay.
