Installing left and right exhaust turbochargers
- Loosen screws (2).
- Remove oil return line (1).
- Ensure that the sealing surfaces in the area of the oil return line are planar and free from oil and grease.
- Replace the seal (3).

- Position screws (2) in oil return line (3).
- Slide seal (1) onto the screws (2).
- Position the oil return line (1).
- Tighten down screws (2).TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Oil return line at the exhaust turbocharger M6x16
Replace screws.Joining torque 5 Nm Angle of rotation 60° - Make sure that the seal (3) does not fall out during the feed in.
- Check oil feed line for contamination or obstruction and clean or replace as needed.
- If the oil feed line is heavily contaminated, it is recommended to change the engine oil and oil filter.
- Check the clean air ducts on the intake side and charge air cooler for contamination or foreign bodies and clean if necessary.
- If installed: Check the coolant feed lines and return lines for exhaust turbocharger for contamination or obstruction, clean or replace if necessary.
- Check that screw connections and plug connections for all lines are correct.
- Check air cleaner for contamination and clean or replace as needed.
- Check correct functioning of crankcase ventilation.
- Replace all gaskets.

- Make sure that the O-ring
(1) does not fall into the oil duct in the engine block.
If the O-ring (1) cannot be disassembled, the oil return lid must be disassembled.
- Coat O-ring (1) with engine oil.ENGINE OIL DESCRIPTION
Technically suitable engine oils for BMW Group engines - Thread in exhaust turbocharger with oil return line in downward direction and position it.
- Make sure that the oil return line is not mechanically deformed.
- Connect connectors (1) and lock.
- Replace the V-clip (2).
Parts: V-band clamp
- Position V-clip (2).
- Hand-tighten the bolt (1).

Exhaust turbocharger to exhaust manifold V-band clamp
Replace V-band clamp.Tightening torque 9 Nm Tightening torque 20 Nm - Check if the screw connection of the V-band clamp is too loose.
- If there is a gap between the ends of the V-band clamps: Loosen the screw and tighten again.
- Check if the screw connection of the V-band clamp is too tight.
- When the ends of the V-band clamp are positioned one below the other: Loosen screws and retighten.
- Make sure that the ends of the V-band clamp are parallel to each other.
- Loosen screws (1).
- Remove special tool 2 249 171
(2).
- Replace the screw (1).

- Make sure that when installing sealing rings without a fitting aid (bridge), both sealing rings are replaced.
- Position screw (1) with the sealing ring or sealing rings (2) on the oil feed line.

Installing right exhaust turbocharger

Complete the following steps with the help of a support person. - Position the oil return line (1).

Gauge of exhaust turbocharger to cylinder head cover screw Tightening torque 10 Nm - Manually move the screws (1) of the setting gauge up to the contact surface of the exhaust turbocharger (2).
- Exhaust turbocharger (2) must be aligned on vertical axis on left and right.
- Adjust exhaust turbocharger (2) parallel to setting gauge.
- Tighten screw (1) on the V-clip.TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS
Exhaust turbocharger to exhaust manifold V-band clamp
Replace V-band clamp.Tightening torque 9 Nm Tightening torque 20 Nm - Check if the screw connection of the V-band clamp is too loose.

- Check if the screw connection of the V-band clamp is too tight.

Oil return line to crankcase screw Tightening torque 10 Nm - Push hose clamps (1) onto hoses.
- Push the hoses onto the connections.
- Secure hose clamps (1).
- Replace the screw (1).

- Make sure that when installing sealing rings without a fitting aid (bridge), both sealing rings are replaced.
- Position screw (1) with the sealing ring or sealing rings (2) on the oil feed line.

- Position fixture for the right (2).
- Tightening the screws (1).

- Clip the wiring harness (2) into the clamps (1).
