Installing the rear differential (without GHAS)

• Fold open the assembly protection ring (1).

• Raise the rear differential (1) with the special tool 0 496 009 (33 5 200)  .
• Insert the left output shaft (3) into rear differential (1).
• Turn rear differential (1) to the right and insert the right output shaft (2) into rear differential (1).

  NOTE: Perform the steps on the right and left side.
• Pull on the lug (1) of the installation protection ring until one of the two predetermined breaking points breaks.
• Pull out and dispose of the installation protection ring.

• Lift the rear differential (1) using special tools 0 496 009 (33 5 200)  and 0 490 133 (00 2 030) and position on the rear axle support.
• Make sure that the special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206)  is not pinched between the rear differential and the dust plate.

• Replace screws (1).

  Parts:  Screws

• Screw in the screws (1) using hand force and tighten.
  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Rear differential to rear axle carrier, front
  M12 Replace screw.	Joining torque	100 Nm
  	Angle of rotation	90°

  NOTE: The following step(s) must be performed if the listed component(s) is/are installed.
• Position the ground strap (2).
• Tighten nut (1).
  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Ground strap on rear axle differential
  M12	Tightening torque	15 Nm

• Replace the screw (1).

• Insert the screw (1).

• Replace nut (1).

  Parts:  Nut

• Tighten nut (1).

  M14 Replace screw and nut.	Joining torque	165 Nm
  	Angle of rotation	90°

• Replace the screw (1).

• Tighten down screw (1).

  Rear axle differential to rear right rear axle support
  M10 Replace screw.	Joining torque	56 Nm
  	Angle of rotation	90°

• Release and remove special tool 0 496 080 (33 5 206)  from rear differential (1).
• Lower and remove the special tools  0 490 133 (00 2 030)  and 0 496 009 (33 5 200)  .
