Replace Trunk Lid

Preliminary work 

• Refer to REMOVE BOTH TRIM PIECES FOR THE SIDE REAR WINDOW FRAME .
• Refer to REMOVE THE POWER TAILGATE SWITCH .
• Refer to REMOVING THE TRUNK LID LIGHT .
• Refer to REMOVING BOTH TRUNK LID COVERS .
• Refer to REMOVE THE TRIM FOR THE TOP REAR WINDOW FRAME .
• Refer to REMOVE BOTH TRIM PIECES FOR THE SIDE REAR WINDOW FRAME .
• Refer to REMOVE TAILGATE TRIM PANEL .
• Refer to REMOVE REAR SPOILER .
• Refer to REMOVE THE LOWER PART OF THE REAR SPOILER .
• Refer to REMOVE BOTH TAIL LIGHTS FROM THE TRUNK LID .
• Refer to REMOVE VIBRATION ABSORBER ON THE TRUNK LID .
• Refer to REMOVE THE TAILGATE BUTTON .
• Refer to REMOVE BOTH NUMBER PLATE LIGHTS .
• Refer to REMOVE STRIKER FOR TAILGATE LATCH .
• Refer to REMOVE THE WIPER ARM OF THE REAR WIPER .

Prerequisite 

New part is painted.

• Feed in the rubber grommets (1) together with the wiring harness.

• Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrows) and put to one side.

• Unlock and disconnect the plug connection (1) for the buzzer.

  Release the wiring harness at the marked locations (arrows).

• Feed out the left and right wiring harness from the tailgate frame and put to one side.

  NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
  Mechanical effects. Paint damage. 

  • Mask those working areas at risk with yellow plastic adhesive tape.
  • Remove and install heavy or bulky components with the aid of another person/other persons.

• Remove screws (1) on both sides of vehicle.
• Remove trunk lid.
• Position new tailgate on tailgate hinges.

  Tighten screws (1) on both sides of vehicle.

  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Trunk lid to the hinge
  Hexagon screw M8 Tightening torque
  	28 Nm

• Carefully close the trunk lid and check for bodywork contact, repositioning door if necessary.
  NOTE: Description is for left component only. Procedure on the right side is identical.
• Loosen screw (1) and remove together with stop pad (2).
• Reposition stop pad (2) on new part.

  Tighten down screw (1).

  TIGHTENING TORQUES SPECIFICATION
  
  

  Stop pad to trunk lid
  Screw M6 Tightening torque
  	8 Nm

• Remount buzzer (1).

• Remount expansion nuts (1).
• Remount the seal plug (2).

• Remount the seal plug (1).

• Fasten vehicle wiring harness at marked locations (arrows).

• Feed rubber grommets (1) through outwards together with wiring harness.
• Install rubber grommets (1). While doing this, ensure correct installation (water tightness).

• Feed the wiring harness into the tailgate frame on the left and right.
• Fasten vehicle wiring harness at marked locations (arrows).
• Connect the connector (1) for the buzzer and lock it.
