Removing and installing instrument panel trim (X5 M)

Necessary preliminary work:

Remove BOTH A-PILLAR TRIM PANELS .
Remove the left/right SIDE COVER FROM THE INSTRUMENT PANEL .
Remove the LIGHT CONTROL UNIT .
Remove STEERING COLUMN SWITCH CLUSTER .
Remove the KOMBI .
Remove the DRIVER'S SIDE KNEE AIRBAG .
Remove TRIM PANEL FOR PEDAL MECHANISM .
Remove the CENTRAL INFORMATION DISPLAY .
Remove the CAR INFORMATION COMPUTER/HEADUNIT .
Remove GLOVE BOX .
Remove the BOTTOM RIGHT INSTRUMENT PANEL TRIM .
Remove the SIDE CARPET FROM THE CENTER CONSOLE .
Remove the TRIM FROM THE REAR CENTER CONSOLE .

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect.

Unfasten screws (2).

Unfasten cable clip (3).

NOTE: Carry out work on the left side in the same way as for the right side illustrated here.

Pull center console approx. 10 cm rearwards, paying attention to cables when doing so.

Version without knee airbag:

Release screws (1).

Release trim panel (2) from clips (3) and remove.

Installation note:

Replace faulty clamps.

Driver's side:

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque 51 45 5AZ .

Center:

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque 51 45 5AZ .

Front passenger side:

Unlock plug connections (1) and disconnect.

Unfasten screws (2).

Tightening torque 51 45 5AZ .

With the assistance of a second person, pull back the instrument panel trim a little way and disconnect any other cable retainers and electrical connectors.

With the assistance of a second person, remove dashboard trim panel.

Installation note:

Make sure guides (1) are correctly seated in the relevant holders (2).
