Install the transfer box (VTG)

If the intermediate shaft (1) catches on the transfer box (VTG) (2) , replace the intermediate shaft (1) and the radial shaft seal in the automatic transmission or the manual transmission.

Screw in the special tool 2 409 025 in the outer radial shaft seal.
Turn the screw on the special tool 2 409 025 until the outer radial shaft seal is pulled out.

Screw in the special tool 2 411 739 in the inner radial shaft seal.
Turn the screw on the special tool 2 411 739 until the inner radial shaft seal is pulled out.

Use special tools 2 408 152 and 2 413 037 to drive in the inner radial shaft seal up to the stop.

If necessary, connect the new intermediate shaft (1) on the output flange of the automatic transmission or gearbox.

Evenly coat the inside of the output flange (arrows) with approximately 5 g grease.

Install the transfer box (VTG).
Tighten down screws (1) .

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Transfer box to transmission
M10	tightening torque	56 Nm

Replace the heat shield.
Parts: Heat protection plate
Install heat shield.
Replace screws (1) .
Parts: Screws
Tighten down screws (1) .

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Heat shield to transfer box
M6 Replace screws.	tightening torque	6 Nm

Checking transfer box oil level

NOTE: RISK OF DAMAGE
Damage to the transmission .
Damage to the transmission due to unapproved transmission oil .

Use only the approved transmission oil.
Check the transmission oil level after completing the repair.

Check transfer box oil level, correct:
Open the oil filler plug (1) .
Check transfer box oil level.

If necessary, top up transmission oil to the lower edge of the oil filler plug opening (1) .

Tighten the oil filler plug (1) .

TIGHTENING TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS

Oil filler plug on transfer box (VTG)
M18x1.5	Tightening torque	35 Nm
