54 62 003 Removing And Installing/Replacing Rollover Bar

WARNING: Before removal, it is absolutely essential to trigger the rollover bar. Refer to 54 62 000 Triggering/Retracting Rollover Protection System (BMW Diagnosis System) .

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove right and left luggage compartment wheel arch trim . Refer to 51 47 151 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING LEFT LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT WHEEL ARCH TRIM
Remove rollover protection system strut . Refer to 51 61... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FRONT ROLLOVER PROTECTION SYSTEM STRUT .
Remove ski bag .
Remove trim for belt guide . Refer to 51 46 030 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING TRIM FOR BELT GUIDE ON LEFT OR RIGHT

Installation:

Microencapsulated screws (Loctite) must be replaced and may not be reused.

Screw connection must be completed within 20 minutes (start of curing).

Microencapsulated screws (Loctite) must not be retightened.

Clean thread of nut beforehand in event of repeated use.

The right side is removed in the same way as the left side.

Release screw (1) and remove guide clip (5).

Tightening torque, see 72 11 24AZ in 72 11 SEAT BELTS .

Release screws (2).

Carefully press panel (3) to one side and release screws (4).

Installation:

Replace screws (4) and insert with Loctite.

Tightening torque, see 54 62 5AZ in 54 62 ROLLOVER PROTECTION SYSTEM, FOLDING .

Release screws (1).

Release screws (1) on skibag casing.

Tightening torque, see 52 24 5AZ in 52 24 REAR SEAT (NORMAL), MANUAL .

Release screws (1) on rollover protection system.

Tightening torque, see 54 62 6AZ in 54 62 ROLLOVER PROTECTION SYSTEM, FOLDING .

Disconnect plug connections (2) and (3).

Lever out rollover bar.

Installation:

Replace Torx screws and insert with Loctite.

Replacement only:

Modify all panels and trims . Refer to 51 46... REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING UPPER CROSS-MEMBER COVER .

Modify control units
