Fuel Tank, Removing And Installing: Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following:
Replace sealing rings.
Pay attention when connecting the connectors that they are secure.
-- Check the Ground (GND) wires for traces of oxidation on the connectors. Remove any oxidation if necessary.
-- Make sure the following connectors are secure:
- The connector -1- must be securely attached to the metal ring -2-.
- Engage the contact -3- in the fuel tank -5- and secure it with the spacer bushing -4-.
Risk of explosion due to electrostatic charge.
- After installing, check electrical connection on fuel filler neck metal ring to an empty spot on the body using an Ohm meter.
- Specified value: approximately 0 Ω.
-- Make sure the fuel and vent line is attached to the fuel tank properly.
-- Position the fuel tank together with the mounting strap on the underbody using : VAS6931 .
-- Make sure the fuel tank is positioned so that the filler tube can be guided into the opening of the body correctly.
-- Tighten the bolts -1 to 5-.
-- Install the fuel filler tube breather line -3- with new seals through the body on the connecting piece -1- on the fuel filler tube until it engages audibly -arrow-.
-- Install the breather line on the fuel filler tube -2- until it audibly latches.
-- Press the breather line on again and pull to make sure the connection is engaged correctly.
-- Install the left and right rear underbody panels. Refer to UNDERBODY TRIM PANEL .
-- Install the driveshaft. Refer to DRIVESHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
-- Install the rear section from the exhaust system. Refer to OVERVIEW - MUFFLER ( 2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation II, As of 01/2018), OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; EA 888 Generation III, As of 12/2017), or OVERVIEW - MUFFLER (2.0L 4V TFSI Engine; Generation II, As of 09/2016). .
-- Install the right rear wheel housing liner. Refer to Rear Wheel Housing Liner, Removing And Installing .
-- Install the rear bench seat. Refer to OVERVIEW - BENCH SEAT/SINGLE SEAT .
-- Connect the battery while doing so follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to OVERVIEW - BATTERY, ENGINE COMPARTMENT BATTERY VERSION 1 , OVERVIEW - BATTERY, ENGINE COMPARTMENT BATTERY VERSION 2 , or OVERVIEW - BATTERY, BATTERY IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT . -- After installing a new or completely empty fuel tank, at least 5 liters (5.28 qts) of fuel must be added before starting the engine.
Do not allow the fuel pump to run when the fuel tank is empty.
