- Intake Camshaft
- Checking radial clearance with Plastigage, wear limit: 0.1 mm
- Stroke: maximum 0.01 mm
- Axial Play, Checking. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Identification. Refer to Camshaft Identification .
- Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Camshaft Bearing Cap
- Exhaust Camshaft
- Checking radial clearance with Plastigage, wear limit: 0.1 mm
- Stroke: maximum 0.01 mm
- Axial Play, Checking. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Identification. Refer to Camshaft Identification .
- Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- 5 Nm + 1 /8 (45°) additional turn
- Seal
- If leaking, replace completely
- Coat contact surfaces of sealing rings when installing control housing.
- Do not spread sealing rings excessively when inserting
- Control Housing
- Oil contact surface of sealing rings before installing
- Camshaft Adjustment Valves, Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT VALVE 1 Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- AND EXHAUST CAMSHAFT ADJUSTMENT VALVE 1 Exhaust Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N318-, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Markings for valve timing. Refer to Figure.
- Overview - Control Housing. Refer to OVERVIEW - CONTROL HOUSING .
- Check the control housing strainer for contamination before installing. Refer to Figure.
- Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- 8 Nm + 1

- Insert with Locking Fluid:D 000 600 A2
- Exhaust Camshaft Adjuster
- Identification: 32A
- Rotate engine only with camshaft adjuster installed and chain installed
- Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Intake Camshaft Adjuster
- Identification: 24E
- Rotate engine only with camshaft adjuster installed and chain installed
- Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT ADJUSTER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- 60 Nm + 1

- Replace
- The sensor wheel contact surface on the bolt head must be dry when installing
- Counterhold the camshaft with a 27 mm wrench when removing and installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, REMOVING AND INSTALLING , Camshafts, Removing and Installing
- Cylinder Head Height
- Minimum height: a = 139, 9 mm
- High Pressure Pump Drive Chain Sprocket
- With inner spline
- The bearing shaft fits in only one position
- Bearing Shaft
- The bearing shaft fits in only one position
- Coat the bearing shaft with oil before installing.
- Vacuum pump drive axle
- Valves
- Exhaust valve with sodium filling
- Do not rework, only grinding is permitted
- Valve Dimensions. Refer to Figure.
- Alignment Sleeve
- Cylinder Head
- Checking for distortion. Refer to Figure.
- Removing and Installing. Refer to CYLINDER HEAD, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Valve Seats, Reworking
- After replacing, replace the entire amount of coolant.
- Pump Plunger
- Note the installation position. Refer to Installing: .
- Support
- Check the camshaft axial play before installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Do not interchange
- With hydraulic valve clearance compensation
- Valve Stem Seal
- Replacing. Refer to VALVE STEM SEALS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Camshaft Timing Chain
- Mark direction of rotation before removing (installation position)
- Removing and Installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT TIMING CHAIN, REMOVING AND INSTALLING .
- Clip
- Check for secure fit
- Roller Rocker Lever
- Check the camshaft axial play before installing. Refer to CAMSHAFT, MEASURING AXIAL CLEARANCE .
- Do not interchange
- Check the roller bearing for ease of movement
- Lubricate contact surfaces
- Use clip to clip onto support element when installing
- Valve Spring
- Note the installation position
- Removing and installing (refer to VALVE STEM SEALS, REMOVING AND INSTALLING ), replacing valve stem seal
- Valve Spring Retainer
- Valve Keepers
