Removal [08/2015 - ]: Procedure

  1. PRECAUTION 
    NOTE:

    After turning the engine switch off, waiting time may be required before disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal. Therefore, make sure to read the disconnecting the cable from the battery terminal notice before proceeding with work (Refer to PRECAUTION [08/2015 - ] ).

  2. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    NOTE:

    When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (Refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2015 - 08/2017] , or refer to INITIALIZATION [08/2017 - ] ).

  3. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  4. REMOVE PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  5. REMOVE EXHAUST PIPE 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  6. REMOVE STARTER ASSEMBLY 

    (Refer to REMOVAL [08/2015 - ] )

  7. REMOVE UPPER RADIATOR SUPPORT SEAL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 3

  8. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUBASSEMBLY LH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  9. REMOVE FRONT FENDER SPLASH SHIELD SUBASSEMBLY RH 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 2

  10. REMOVE NO. 1 ENGINE UNDER COVER SUBASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 17

  11. REMOVE NO. 2 ENGINE UNDER COVER 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

  12. REMOVE OIL PAN PROTECTOR ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 4 bolts and oil pan protector assembly.
  13. REMOVE TRANSMISSION CASE COVER (w/ Cover) 

    See step  3

  14. DRAIN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FLUID 

    See step  3

  15. DRAIN TRANSFER OIL 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 1

  16. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING A 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 5

  17. REMOVE FRONT FENDER APRON TRIM PACKING C 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 6

  18. DRAIN ENGINE COOLANT 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 4

  19. REMOVE NO. 3 FRONT FLOOR HEAT INSULATOR 

    See step  2

  20. DISCONNECT FLOOR SHIFT GEAR SHIFTING ROD SUBASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the clip and pin and disconnect the floor shift gear shifting rod subassembly from the transmission control shaft lever.
  21. REMOVE NO. 1 MANIFOLD STAY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 18

  22. REMOVE NO. 2 MANIFOLD STAY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 15

  23. REMOVE DRIVE PLATE AND TORQUE CONVERTER SETTING BOLT 
    1. Using SST, hold the crankshaft.

      • SST: 09213-70011 
        1. 09213-70020
      • SST: 09330-00021 
    2. Remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter setting bolts.

      HINT: 

      Turn the crankshaft to remove the 6 drive plate and torque converter setting bolts.

  24. DISCONNECT OIL COOLER TUBE 
    1. Using a 17 mm union nut wrench, disconnect the 2 oil cooler tubes from the oil cooler tube union.

    2. Remove the 3 bolts and disconnect the oil cooler tube.

    3. Remove the bolt and transmission oil cooler tube clamp subassembly.
  25. DISCONNECT GROUND CABLE 
    1. Remove the bolt and disconnect the ground cable.

  26. SUPPORT AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY 
    1. Support the transmission with a transmission jack. Lift the transmission slightly from the No. 3 frame crossmember subassembly.

      NOTE:

      Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.

  27. REMOVE NO. 2 FRAME CROSSMEMBER SUBASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove the engine mounting hole cover.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts of the rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator.

    3. Remove the 4 nuts, 4 bolts and No. 2 frame crossmember subassembly.

  28. REMOVE REAR NO. 1 ENGINE MOUNTING INSULATOR 
    1. Remove the 2 bolts and engine mounting heat insulator.

    2. Remove the 4 bolts and rear No. 1 engine mounting insulator from the transmission.
  29. DISCONNECT WIRE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Tilt the transmission downward.

      NOTE:
      • Support the oil pan bolts to prevent damage to the oil pan gasket.
      • Make sure the cooling fan does not contact the fan shroud.
    2. Disconnect the transfer breather hose subassembly from the automatic transmission assembly.

    3. Detach the 6 clamps, 2 hose plugs and disconnect the transfer breather hose subassembly.
    4. Disconnect the park/neutral position switch connector, 2 transmission wire connectors and 3 transfer control connectors.

      HINT: 

      Detach the claw, pull the lever, and then disconnect the transmission wire connector.

    5. Detach the 17 clamps and disconnect the wire harness.
  30. REMOVE TRANSFER ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 16

  31. REMOVE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY

    1. Remove the 10 bolts and automatic transmission assembly.
      NOTE:

      Do not use excess force to pry off the automatic transmission assembly.

  32. REMOVE WIRE HARNESS CLAMP BRACKET 
    1. Remove the 11 bolts and 11 wire harness clamp brackets.

  33. REMOVE TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Put matchmarks on the automatic transmission case subassembly and the torque converter assembly.

    2. Remove the torque converter assembly from the automatic transmission assembly.
      NOTE:

      Remove the torque converter assembly from the input shaft horizontally.

  34. INSPECT TORQUE CONVERTER ASSEMBLY
