7 Place patch marks on the pistons on right-hand side (4a) or pistons on left-hand side (4b) and cylinder liners IMPORTANT The pistons on the right-hand side (4a) or pistons on the left-hand side (4b) must not be interchanged.
8 Remove connecting rods (2) with pistons on the right-hand side (4a) and pistons on the left-hand side (4b) If arrow for the installation position of piston on the right side (4a) or the piston on the left side (4b) is no longer visible on the piston crown:

remove carbonization; if necessary again mark the piston on the right side (4a) or the piston on the left side (4b).

9 Mark installation position of the connecting rods (2) relative to the piston on the right-hand side (4a) or to the piston on the left-hand side (4b)
10 Remove retaining ring (5) for piston pin (6) NOTES
Lay RH piston (4a) or LH piston (4b) on a clean and soft base, for example on shop towels.
Otherwise damage will occur.

11 Press out piston pin (6)
INSTALLING Install
12 Assign pistons on the right-hand side (4a) or pistons on the left-hand side (4b) to the cylinder bore
13 Oil piston pin (6) and connecting rod bushing
14 Assemble piston on the right-hand side (4a) or the piston on the left-hand side (4b) and connecting rods (2) according to the marked installation position NOTES
The connecting rods (2) are cracked (broken). Dimensional accuracy of connecting rods bearing caps (1) can no longer be guaranteed after opening, therefore new connecting rods must be fitted after removal.
Engine damage can occur otherwise!
NOTES
The connecting rods are delivered with assembly bolts and have to be replaced by connecting rod bolts (3) with an assembly locking element.
This avoids loosening.

15 Push in piston pin (6) by hand
16 Insert retaining ring (5) for piston pin (6) into the groove of the piston on the right-hand side (4a) or of the piston on the left-hand side (4b) NOTES
Lay RH piston (4a) or LH piston (4b) on a clean and soft base, for example on shop towels.
Otherwise damage will occur.

17 Clean and lubricate piston on the right-hand side (4a) or piston on the left-hand side (4b) IMPORTANT For this purpose, clean and oil the cylinder bores, connecting rod journals and connecting rod bearing shells.
18 Align and tension the piston rings INSTALLATION IMPORTANTSPECIAL TOOL Push tensioning strap (7) over the piston rings and tension.
IMPORTANT Joint on upper piston ring must point in the direction of travel towards the front. The joints of other piston rings must be offset by 120° in each case.

SPECIAL TOOL Tensioning strap Figure
19 Insert piston on right-hand side (4a) or piston on the left-hand (4b) in the cylinder bores IMPORTANT The arrow on piston crown must point to opposite cylinder bank. The connecting rods (2) must not touch the connecting rod journal of the crankshaft while inserting; turn the crankshaft accordingly.
20 Install connecting rod bearing cap (1) MODEL 222 AR03.10-P-6111-06TI
MODEL 207, 212, 218, 221
IMPORTANT The contact surfaces must be devoid of any oil and grease and must not be damaged.
