Remove/install fuel injectors - AR07.03-P-0004EL

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Disconnect battery ground line   AR54.10-P-0003EW

2 Remove center section of the bulkhead (78) ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212, 218
ENGINE 276.9 in MODEL 212.095/195
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Ensure correct seating of the center section of the bulkhead (78).

3 Remove rails (1)   AR07.03-P-1010EL
4 Mark fuel injectors (Y76) relative to the respective cylinder NOTES If fuel injectors (Y76) are replaced, the transport protective caps on the fuel injectors (Y76) should not be removed until one hour before assembly at the earliest.
Leaks can occur otherwise.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT When reusing the fuel injectors (Y76) they must be inserted into the same cylinder in which they were previously installed.
 
5 Remove fuel injectors (Y76) from the cylinder head IMPORTANT Oil which comes out during disassembly of the rail (1) or from the fuel injectors (Y76) is safe. The rail (1) or the fuel injectors (Y76) can be re-used.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT The fuel injectors (Y76) must be installed together with the rail (1).
In case of jammed fuel injectors (Y76):

Remove injection nozzle (Y76).

INSPECT Check     
6 Check fuel injectors (Y76) for external damage In a case of damage to the stems or to the mounts of the sealing package on the fuel injectors (Y76):

Replace fuel injectors
 
7 Replace sealing rings (2) and seals (4) on the fuel injectors (Y76)    
8 Replace sealing rings (3) for fuel injectors (Y76)   AR07.03-P-0004-01MM 
    NOTES Fuel injectors (Y76) must be installed immediately after calibration of the sealing rings (3).
The sealing rings (3) will swell otherwise under the influence of the air humidity and will therefore be damaged in during assembly.

9 Install in the reverse order    
10 Store injector quantity compensation (IMA) coding in ME-SFI [ME] control unit For installation of new fuel injectors (Y76)  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-04A
11 Read out fault memory using the diagnostic system and clear if necessary

DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
12 Carry out engine test run, checking the engine for proper operation and leaktightness of the fuel system
