Remove/install fuel tank - AR47.10-P-4100EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel and risk of injury  to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking.
Only pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between columns of vehicle lift and position four support plates at vehicle lift support points specified by vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A

1 Drain fuel tank (1)   AR47.10-P-4001EW

3 Remove cover for service openings   AR47.10-P-4100-02EW 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA47.10-P-1005-01M 
4 Unlock fuel pump harness electrical connector (X36/3) and fuel tank electrical connector (X25/4), disconnect and set aside.    
5 Unlock electrical connectors on fuel pressure sensor (B4/7), disconnect and set aside Vehicles with gasoline engine  
6 Remove rear axle. IMPORTANT Place vehicle lift support arm in such a way on the vehicle that the fuel tank (1) can be lowered vertically downwards. AR35.10-P-0010EW
7 Remove RH and LH underfloor paneling    
8 Remove fender liner in right rear fender    
9 Remove filler neck/ground screw connection (X36/4) at filler pipe (1a) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA47.10-P-1003-01M 
10 Detach hose (4a) on activated charcoal canister (4) Vehicles with gasoline engine  
11 Detach drain hose (5) from filler neck depression    
12 Pull boot (6) out of rear fender    
13 Unlock and detach fuel line (7) on frame floor assembly IMPORTANT Collect any escaping fuel with an absorbent rag.
Vehicles with diesel engine: unlock and detach both fuel lines (7).

14 Remove bolts (1s) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Insert washer (1u) between filler pipe (1a) and body.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Align filler pipe (1a) before tightening the bolts (1s) in such a way that the boot (9) surrounds and seals the filler neck (1c) over its whole circumference.
 
15 Loosen trim ring with long wedge (1w) from filler neck (1c) SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 4
16 Unscrew nuts (3) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA47.10-P-1001-01M 
17 Remove heat shield (8) When replacing the fuel tank (1)  
18 Support fuel tank (1)    
19 Unscrew nuts (1m) TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA47.10-P-1001-01M 
20 Lower fuel tank (1) NOTES Never handle fuel tank (1) at the filler pipe (1a) or vent line (1b). They can be damaged otherwise. The filler pipe (1a) and vent line (1b) cannot be replaced separately!
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Spreading lubricating paste onto boot (9).

21 Install in the reverse order    
INSPECT Checking     
DANGER Risk of accident  caused by vehicle starting off by itself when engine is running. Risk of injury  caused by contusions and burns during starting procedure or when working near the engine as it is running Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself.
Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

22 Check fuel system for leaks with engine running
