Remove/install fuel pump - AR47.20-P-5710EWA

DANGER Risk of explosion  caused by fuel igniting, risk of poisoning caused by inhaling and swallowing fuel as well as risk of injury to eyes and skin caused by contact with fuel. No fires, sparks, open flames or smoking. Pour fuels into suitable and appropriately marked containers only.
Wear protective clothing when handling fuel.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Check fuel level NOTES The fuel tank may only be filled to a maximum of 25%.
Fuel can escape otherwise.
Drain fuel tank if necessary: ↓
Drain fuel tank
 
AR47.10-P-4001EW 
2 Open fuel filler flap and open tank cap and reseal IMPORTANT in order to reduce pressure in the fuel tank.  
3 Remove rear seat cushion MODEL 218.9 with ENGINE 642, 651 AR91.12-P-1020ELX
MODEL 212 with ENGINE 642, 651 without CODE 224 (Rear individual seat design) AR91.12-P-1020CW
MODEL 212.0 with ENGINE 642, 651 with CODE 224 (Rear individual seat design) AR91.12-P-1020EW
MODEL 218.3 with ENGINE 642, 651 AR91.12-P-1020EL
4 Remove cover for service openings   AR47.10-P-4100-02EW 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, cover to vehicle floor *BA47.10-P-1005-01M 
5 Remove locking rings   AR47.10-P-4100-02EWA 
IMPORTANT Follow the work instruction exactly.  
Antifriction paste, rubber parts 2.5 kg, DB supply specification 6867.00 *BR00.45-Z-1002-06A

6 Pull transfer unit (2) out of left chamber of the fuel tank NOTES Handle transfer unit (2) and LH fuel tank fuel level indicator fill level sensor (B4/1) carefully. This serves to prevent deformation of the float linkage (3).
NOTES Collect dripping fuel with an absorbent rag. In this way damage to and soiling of the vehicle are avoided.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not kink, crush or twist fuel lines (4a, 4b) and do not route in tight radii.
Fuel lines (4a, 4b) should not have any loops, indentations or damage.
 
7 Remove fuel lines (4a, 4b) at transfer unit (2)   AR47.20-P-5510-01EW 
8 Remove swirl pot (5), fuel pump (M3) and fuel lines (4a, 4b) out of right chamber of the fuel tank NOTES Handle RH fuel level indicator fuel tank fill level sensor (B4/2) carefully.
This serves to prevent deformation of the float linkage (6).
NOTES Collect dripping fuel with an absorbent rag. In this way damage to and soiling of the vehicle are avoided.
INSTALLATION NOTES
The fuel lines (4a, 4b) must, seen in the direction of travel, be routed in front of the rollover valve (7) mounted in front of the fuel tank.
Free of tension assembly of the transfer unit (2) will not be possible otherwise.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Do not kink, crush or twist fuel lines (4a, 4b) and do not route in tight radii.
Fuel lines (4a, 4b) should not have any loops, indentations or damage.
 
9 Mount RH fuel level indicator fuel tank fill level sensor (B4/2) on new swirl pot (5) When replacing fuel pump (M3)

10 Install in the reverse order    
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
11 Carry out an engine test run and check fuel system for leaktightness
