Remove/install transmission with torque converter - AR27.10-P-0500EW

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
1 Move selector lever into position "N"    
2 Release parking brake    
3 Detach ground line from battery   AR54.10-P-0003EW
NOTES Notes on battery AH54.10-P-0001-01A
4 Secure vehicle on vehicle lift   AR00.60-P-0100EWS
5 Remove lower engine compartment paneling or bottom sections of soundproofing Vehicles with gasoline engine AR61.20-P-1105EW

6 Remove shield (5) and detach electrical connection from electric controller unit   AR27.40-P-0700-01EW 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, heat shield to transmission housing *BA27.40-P-1014-01A 
7 Remove oil filler pipe   AR27.10-P-0500-04V
NOTES Before starting work the area surrounding the oil cooler lines must be thoroughly cleaned in the area around the separation points on the transmission (1).
Otherwise, even the smallest dirt particles in the hydraulic components can lead to malfunctions and a total failure of the transmission (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, automatic transmission to engine *BA27.40-P-1008-01A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil filler pipe to cylinder head *BA27.10-P-1003-03A 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil filler pipe to transmission housing *BA27.10-P-1004-03A 
8 Remove diesel particulate filter bracket to transmission (1) TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut, bracket of diesel particulate filter to lower diesel particulate filter *BA49.10-P-1009-01AE 
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, bracket to transmission *BA49.10-P-1011-01AE 
9 Detach ground line (2) from transmission (1)    
10 Detach shift rod (15) at range selector lever (16) of transmission (1) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clamp (14a).  
11 Detach oil cooling lines from transmission (1) and engine oil pan, and place to one side   AR27.55-P-0600EW
NOTES Do not bend or kink oil cooling lines.
Otherwise the oil line could be damaged.
IMPORTANT Seal connections on transmission (1) and at the oil cooling lines using stop plugs.

12 Detach torque converter (9) from driven plate and pry off driven plate uniformly using long wedge   AR27.20-P-0100-01VA
NOTES Do not use an impact wrench or compressed air tool.
Otherwise the threaded unions of the driven plate may be damaged.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, torque converter to driver spider *BA27.20-P-1002-01C

13 Support and lash down transmission (1)    
14 Remove rear engine cross member (7a) with rear engine mount (7b)   AR22.10-P-1180CW
NOTES Notes on bolted connections with self tapping screws AH00.00-P-0007-01SF
15 Remove front flexible coupling from transmission (1)   AR41.10-P-0050EW
16 Remove bolts (8) and remove transmission (1) downwards NOTES Secure torque converter (9) to prevent it from falling out.
Otherwise the torque converter may be damaged.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Align the threaded holes of the torque converter (9) and holes of the driven plate with each other.		  
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, automatic transmission to engine *BA27.40-P-1008-01A 
17 Remove torque converter (9) INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Grease crankshaft bearing journals with multipurpose paste.  
Multi-purpose paste *BR00.45-Z-1009-06A 
SPECIAL TOOL Handles Figure
INSPECT Check     
18 Check tapped holes in torque converter (9) IMPORTANT Check tapped holes for damage and replace torque converter (9) if necessary.  
19 Install in the reverse order    
20 Perform basic programming    
21 Check oil level in transmission (1) and correct, if necessary   AR27.00-P-0100AC
22 Read out fault memory with STAR DIAGNOSIS and erase if necessary    
23 Perform transmission adaptation with STAR DIAGNOSIS IMPORTANT A transmission adaptation must be carried out after exchanging or repairing the transmission (1).  
DANGER Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
24 Perform engine test run and check transmission (1) for proper operation and leaktightness
