11 14 110 Removing and installing timing case cover, bottom (M62 up to 9/98)

Remove timing case covers, top left and right, refer to 11 14 080 REMOVING AND INSTALLING TIMING CASE COVER, TOP LEFT (M62 VANOS FROM 9/98)  / 11 14 085.

Remove hub for vibration damper, refer to 11 23 031 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING HUB FOR VIBRATION DAMPER (M62) .

Remove water pump with thermostat housing, refer to 11 51 000 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING WATER PUMP (M62 / S62) .

Remove upper oil sump section, refer to 11 13 010 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING UPPER SECTION OF OIL PAN (M62) .

Remove alternator, refer to 12 31 020 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING ALTERNATOR (M60, M62) .

Press bow cover against the timing chain. Secure bow cover with a plastic strap (1).

Unfasten lower timing case cover.

Installation 

Clean and remove grease from sealing surfaces of the engine block.

Make sure that sleeves are correctly seated.

Replace seals.

Apply thin coat of Drei Bond 1209 to front and back edges of seals.

Installation 

Screw (1) with retainer for vane pump. Align retainer to vane pump.

Install timing case cover, insert all screws and initially tighten to approx. 5 Nm.

Installation 

Firmly tighten all screws in alternate sequence.

Tightening torque, refer to 11 14 1AZ in ENGINE - TIGHTENING TORQUES - 540i .

Replace radial seal in timing case cover at bottom, refer to 11 14 141 REPLACING RADIAL SEAL BELOW TIMING CASE COVER (M62) .
