33 21 000 Removing and installing/replacing left or right output shaft (M6): Notes

IMPORTANT: When reinstalling, place a new circlip on the output shaft!
The RADIAL SHAFT SEALS FOR BOTH OUTPUT SHAFTS must be replaced after every installation and removal.
Observe SAFETY INFORMATION for raising the vehicle
When the repair work is complete, check the OIL LEVEL IN THE REAR AXLE DIFFERENTIAL and correct, if applicable.

Necessary preliminary tasks:

Remove REAR AXLE FINAL DRIVE .

Release collar bolt (1), press brake pedal to floor for this purpose.

Tightening torque 33 41 1AZ .

Installation note:

replace collar bolt (1) and compression spring (2).
Pay attention to installation position of compression spring (2).
Keep collar bolt and spur gearing of bearing/propeller shaft clean and free of grease

IMPORTANT: See INSTALLATION NOTE ON SPUR GEAR .

Remove the output shaft toward the center of the vehicle.

IMPORTANT: Do not damage dust plates (1, 2) when setting down output shaft.

Installation note:

IMPORTANT:

High installation forces indicate that the output shaft spline teeth are damaged or deformed!

Check splines and replace parts if damaged.

Check dust plate (1) for damage, replace if necessary.

Replace circlip (2).

Coat highlighted contact surface (3) of output shaft with approved OIL .

After installation:

Check FINAL DRIVE OIL LEVEL , correct if necessary.
