	Remove/install
1	Shift transmission to "N" position.
2	Raise vehicle using vehicle lift and secure in place.	: Only lower the vehicle after the leak test.	AR00.60-P-1006A
3	Remove rear mufflers.	Rear muffler on the left Model 223 with engine 279 with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)	AR49.10-P-4824SVZ
		Rear muffler on the right Model 223 with engine 279 with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)	AR49.10-P-4825SVZ
4	Remove rear underfloor paneling.		AR61.30-P-1001S
5	Remove propeller shaft from joint flange at rear axle differential (1).	Model 223 with engine 279 with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)	AR41.10-P-0050SVZ
6	Remove right rear axle shaft.	Model 223 with engine 176, 256, 279, 656 with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)	AR35.30-P-0621S
7	Prop up rear axle differential (1) and lash down securely.

8	Remove bolt (2).	Bolt, rear axle differential to rear transverse bridge	*BA35.10-P-1011-01R
9	Secure left rear axle shaft to prevent it from falling down.
10	Pry out left rear axle shaft from rear axle differential (1).	Model 223 with engine 176, 256, 279, 656 with code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version)	AR35.30-P-0621S
11	Remove screws (3).	Bolt, rear axle differential to front cross member	*BA35.10-P-1006-01R
12	Lower rear axle differential (1) with vibration dampers (4) and adapter (5) and remove downward.

	000 588 23 62 00 Mounting plate	Helper required.	WS26.00-P-0415B
13	Unscrew screws (6) and remove vibration dampers (4).	If rear axle differential (1) is to be replaced.
14	Unscrew screws (7) and remove adapter (5).	If rear axle differential (1) is to be replaced. Screw, adapter to end cover	*BA35.31-P-1007-02I
15	Install in the reverse order.
	Check
16	Check oil level in rear axle differential (1) and		AR35.31-P-0520-08S
	Differentiating characteristics of cast iron differential housings		GF35.31-P-0002-02A
	Universal hypoid gear oils (specification 235.7)	Observe the differentiating features to determine the oil filling capacity.	BB00.40-P-0235-07A
		Filling capacity	*BF35.31-P-1001-02I
		Filling screw on rear axle differential	*BA35.31-P-1004-02I
		Loctite 7063 (400 ml) cleaning spray	*BR00.45-Z-1046-04A
		Sealant, Omnifit 100H (50 g)	*BR00.45-Z-1061-01A
17	Check rear axle differential (1) for leak tightness.
18	Lower and release vehicle with vehicle lift.		AR00.60-P-1006A
19	Perform wheel alignment measurement.		AR40.20-P-0200S
