Remove/Install Automatic Transmission Oil Cooler - AR27.55-P-1000SC

WARNING Risk of injury  . Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury  to skin and eyes suffering scalding from contact with hot coolantspray. Risk of poisoning  from swallowing coolant. Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.

CAUTION Risk of injury  to skin and eyes due to handling of transmission oil. Health risk caused by swallowing transmission oil Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Do not pour transmission oil into beverage bottles.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Secure vehicle to prevent it moving away.    
2 Shift automatic transmission (1) to neutral position.    
3 Release parking brake.    
4 Disconnect ground line from battery. IMPORTANT The 48 V on-board electrical system is automatically disconnected from power supply at the latest 10 s after disconnecting the ground line from the 12 V on-board electrical system battery. AR54.10-P-0051S
5 Remove center and rear lower engine compartment lining. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only install center and rear lower rear engine compartment paneling again after leak test AR61.20-P-1105S
6 Remove electric line from holder (4).    
7 Unscrew screws (3) and remove holders (4). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, Catalytic converter bracket to exhaust system *BA49.10-P-1005-02Y 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, Exhaust system bracket to transmission *BA49.10-P-1004-02Y 
8 Clamp off coolant hoses (5, 14). SPECIAL TOOL Clamp Fig 4
9 Remove coolant hose (5) from oil cooler (2).   AR20.20-P-7441-01RQ
10 Seal connection of coolant hose (5) on oil cooler (2) using suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
11 Seal coolant hose (5) with protective cover. SPECIAL TOOL Set of protective covers Fig 2
12 Unscrew screws (6) in reverse order of tightening procedure and remove oil cooler (2). Loosen/tighten screws/bolts on oil cooler of automatic transmission
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Observe tightening procedure of oil cooler (2).

    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, oil cooler to transmission *BA27.10-P-1031-04H 
13 Seal openings in automatic transmission (1) using suitable stop plugs. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
14 Remove seal (7) from automatic transmission (1). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace seal (7).  
15 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
16 Check and correct oil level in automatic transmission.   AR27.00-P-0270EWN
17 Check coolant level, correct if necessary. FLUID SPECIFICATION Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-02MA 
18 Connect vehicle diagnosis system and switch on ignition.    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
19 Start bleeding routine of engine cooling system. IMPORTANT This involves actuating the coolant pumps to remove residual air from the coolant circuit.
If the bleeding routine was not completed successfully,

Repeat bleeding routine of engine cooling system.
 
20 Switch off ignition and disconnect diagnostic    
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS     AD00.00-P-2000-06FR
21 Check coolant level, correct if necessary. FLUID SPECIFICATION Cooling system *BF20.00-P-1001-02MA 
WARNING Risk of accident  from vehicle starting off by itself when engine running. Risk of injury  (bruises and burns) resulting from working on the engine while it is being started or when it is running. Secure vehicle to prevent it from starting off by itself. Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. Do not touch hot or rotating parts. AS00.00-Z-0005-01A
22 Perform engine test run and check oil cooler (2) for leak tightness.    
23 Install center and rear lower engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105S
