DANGER Risk of death  caused by vehicle slipping or toppling off of the lifting platform. Align vehicle between vehicle lift columns and position the four support plates at the vehicle lift support points specified by the vehicle manufacturer. AS00.00-Z-0010-01A
DANGER Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A 
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Unscrew closing cap of brake fluid reservoir. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Only correct the brake fluid fill level after actuating the brake pedal several times. Brake linings (4) must make contact with brake disks. Firm resistance should be noticeable at the brake pedal.  
2.1 Connect diagnostic system and move parking brake into assembly position. Model 447, 448
with code B25 (Electric parking brake)
except code XM7 (MOPF II)
 
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and read out fault memory IMPORTANT To do so, follow the procedure in the "Electric parking brake (EFB) control unit" menu. AD00.00-S-2000-04E
2.2 Activate brake lining change mode. Model 447, 448
with code B25 (Electric parking brake)
with code XM7 (MOPF II)

3 Remove rear wheels.   AR40.10-S-1100E
4 Disconnect electrical connector (5). If installed on affected side of vehicle.

5 Remove screws (1) and remove brake caliper (2). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace screws (1).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, floating brake caliper to floating caliper carrier

6 Remove brake linings (4) from brake caliper support (3).    
INSPECT Check     
7 Check brake linings (4) and brake disks for wear and damage.    
Notice  Notes on evaluating brake disks If wear and/or damage is present,

replace brake linings (4) or brake disks on both sides of axle.

    Remove/install rear axle brake disk AR42.10-S-0240E 
8 Check brake hoses for wear and damage. If wear and/or damage is present,

replace appropriate brake hose.
Remove/install brake hoses at rear axle
AR42.10-S-0025E 
9 Push back piston of brake caliper (2). NOTES
The dust boot must not protrude here.
Otherwise, the dust boot can be damaged.
SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device
Fig 2
    If piston is sluggish or dust boot is damaged,

replace appropriate brake caliper (2).
Remove/install rear-axle brake caliper

    Remove/install rear-axle brake caliper

10 Remove brake lining anti-rattle springs of brake linings (4) from brake caliper support (3). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Always replace brake lining anti-rattle springs.  
CLEAN Clean     
11 Clean contact surfaces of brake linings (4) on brake caliper support (3) and on brake caliper (2). SPECIAL TOOL Brake caliper brush Fig 1
12 Install in the reverse order.    
INSPECT Check     
13 Perform brake test on test stand.
