Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVING Remove
1 Open hood.   AR88.40-P-1000XG
2 Clean area surrounding cap of brake fluid expansion reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A
3 Unscrew cap from brake fluid expansion reservoir and extract some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.
IMPORTANT Properly dispose of extracted brake fluid.

4 Remove left or right wheel and tire assembly on front axle.   AR40.10-P-1102XG
5 Disconnect right front brake pad wear sensor (S10/2) from coupling housing (1). Only when removing the brake caliper (4) on the right side of the vehicle.
6 Remove screw (2) from coupling housing (1). Only when removing the brake caliper (4) on the right side of the vehicle.
7 Remove coupling housing (1) together with electric line and place to one side. Only when removing the brake caliper (4) on the right side of the vehicle.
8 Unscrew retaining screw of brake line (8) from brake hose (7) and loosen brake hose (7). Only when replacing the brake caliper (4).
NOTES
Seal openings on brake hose (7) and on brake line (8) immediately.
Otherwise escaping brake fluid causes damage to adjacent component parts.

SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 3
9 Unscrew the bolts (5). NOTES
Do not  loosen screws (3) or remove from brake caliper support (6).
Otherwise, the factory-set alignment of the brake caliper (4) to the brake caliper support (6), and therefore to the brake disc in its installed condition, is no longer correct.

10 Remove brake caliper (4) together with brake pads and brake caliper support (6).
11 Remove brake pads of front axle. Only when replacing the brake caliper (4) or brake pads. AR42.10-P-1610XGA
INSPECT Check

REFER TO MAINTENANCE
Check brake pads for wear and condition. If damage is present or the wear is outside the wear limit.

Replace brake pads.
AP42.10-P-4252G
IMPORTANT Replace brake pads on the axle only. AR42.10-P-1610XGA
13 Check condition of brake disc and measure wear.
REFER TO MAINTENANCE If damage is present or the wear is outside the wear limit.

Replace brake disc.
  AP42.10-P-4256EW
IMPORTANT Replace brake discs on the axle only. AR42.10-P-0220XG
14 Check brake caliper (4) and dust boot on the brake pistons for leak tightness and damage. If leaks or damage is present,

replace brake caliper (4).

15 Check brake hose (7) for leakage and damage. If leaks or damage is present,

replace brake hose (7).
AR42.10-P-0013XG
INSTALLING Install
16 Push back brake pistons using pusher tool until the brake caliper (4) moves freely. SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device Fig 2
17 Install brake pads of front axle. Only when replacing the brake caliper (4) or brake pads. AR42.10-P-1610XGA
18 Install brake caliper (4) with brake caliper support (6) and installed brake pads.
19 Tighten screws (5) on brake caliper support (6). IMPORTANT Replace screws (5).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, brake caliper/brake caliper support to steering knuckle
*BA42.10-P-1001-10Y
20 Attach brake hose (7) to brake caliper (4) and tighten retaining screw of brake line (8). Only when replacing the brake caliper (4).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Union nut, brake line to connecting point
*BA42.10-P-1010-04B
21 Attach coupling housing (1) together with electric line to brake caliper (4). Only when installing the brake caliper (4) on the right side of the vehicle.
22 Tighten screw (2) on coupling housing (1). Only when installing the brake caliper (4) on the right side of the vehicle.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw, brake pad wear sensor to brake caliper (fixed caliper) *BA42.10-P-1004-10Y
23 Connect right front brake pad wear sensor (S10/2) at coupling housing (1). Only when installing the brake caliper (4) on the right side of the vehicle.
24 Attach left or right wheel and tire assembly on front axle. Only perform if it is ensured that the outer vent screws on the 6-piston fixed caliper are accessible due to the construction of the wheel and tire assemblies on the front axle. Otherwise only carry out the procedure after bleeding the brake system. AR40.10-P-1102XG
  Initial startup
25 Bleed brake system. Only when replacing the brake caliper (4) or after opening the hydraulic system of the service brake. AR42.10-P-0010XG
