Remove/Check/Install Front Axle Brake Pads - AR42.10-P-1610XGA

Model 463.276/277

REMOVING Remove     
1 Remove left or right wheel and tire assembly on front axle.   AR40.10-P-1102XG
2 Drive out bolt (2) using a suitable tool and remove.    
3 Detach brake caliper (4).   AR42.10-P-0070XGA 
    IMPORTANT Fasten brake caliper (4) to vehicle free of tension with lines connected.  
4 Remove break pads (1) together with retaining spring (3).    
5 Pull right front brake pad wear sensor (S10/2) out of break pad (1). When replacing the brake pads (1) or when replacing the right front brake pad wear sensor (S10/2).  
  Check and measure     
6 Check bolts (2) and retaining spring (3) for damage and condition. If wear or damage is present.
↓
Replace bolts (2) or retaining spring (3).		  
7 Check condition of brake discs and measure degree of wear.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE   If damage is present or the wear is outside the tolerance limit,
↓
Replace brake discs.		 AP42.10-P-4256EW
    IMPORTANT Replace brake discs as a complete set only. AR42.10-P-0220XG 
8 Check brake caliper (4) with detachable parts for leaktightness and damage. If a leak or damage is present,
↓
replace corresponding component parts.		  
      AR42.10-P-0070XGA 
CLEANING Clean     
9 Clean contact surfaces of break pads (1) on brake caliper (4) and on brake pistons. NOTES
While doing so, do not damage the dust boot on the brake piston. Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise replace the brake caliper (4).		  
    Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A 
INSTALLING Install     
10 Press back brake pistons with pusher tool. SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device Fig 2
    If the brake pistons are sluggish,
↓
Replace brake caliper (4).		  
      AR42.10-P-0070XGA 
11 Install right front brake pad wear sensor (S10/2) in brake pad (1). When replacing the brake pads (1) or when replacing the right front brake pad wear sensor (S10/2).  
12 Insert retaining spring (3) into brake caliper (4).    
13 Insert break pads (1) into brake caliper (4) and fix with bolts (2). NOTES
Do not apply brake paste or lubricants to the break pads (1) and brake calipers (4).
Otherwise malfunctions will occur.
IMPORTANT Only install Mercedes-Benz approved break pads (1) in sets. Observe installation position of break pads (1).		  
14 Install brake caliper (4) together with the break pads (1) on front axle.   AR42.10-P-0070XGA 
15 Drive in bolts (2) up to end stop. IMPORTANT Make sure that the retaining spring (3) is seated correctly.  
16 Attach left or right wheel and tire assembly to front axle.   AR40.10-P-1102XG
  Initial startup     
17 Operate brake pedal several times until break pads (1) contact brake discs.    
18 Check and correct brake fluid level in expansion reservoir.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.10-P-4210GA
19 Perform brake test.    
REFER TO MAINTENANCE     AP42.00-P-4290BA
