Risk of accident  when commissioning the vehicle due to a lack of braking effect when the service brake is operated for the first time after repair work. Before starting the engine, actuate brake pedal several times until pressure is built up and maintained in the brake system. AS42.50-Z-0002-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. AS00.00-Z-0002-01A
CAUTION Risk of poisoning  from swallowing brake fluid. Risk of injury  from skin and eye contact with brake fluid Only pour brake fluid into suitable and appropriately marked containers. Wear protective clothing and eye protection when handling brake fluid. AS42.50-Z-0001-01A

REMOVING Remove
1 Open hood.   AR88.40-P-1000XG
2 Clean area around cap of brake fluid expansion reservoir. Assembly cleaner *BR00.45-Z-1028-04A
3 Unscrew cap of brake fluid expansion reservoir and extract some brake fluid. IMPORTANT This prevents the expansion reservoir from overflowing when the brake pistons are pushed back.
IMPORTANT Properly dispose of the extracted brake fluid.

4 Detach left or right wheel and tire assembly from front axle.   AR40.10-P-1102XG
5 Disconnect right front brake pad wear sensor (S10/2) from coupling housing (1). Only when removing the brake caliper (5) on the right side of the vehicle.
6 Remove screw (2) on coupling housing (1). Only when removing the brake caliper (5) on the right side of the vehicle.
7 Remove coupling housing (1) together with electrical line and place to one side. Only when removing the brake caliper (5) on the right side of the vehicle.
8 Remove screws (3) from guide pins (4).
9 Unscrew banjo bolt (7), remove sealing rings and hang brake hose (8) to one side. Only when replacing the brake caliper (5).
NOTES
Seal openings in brake caliper (5) and brake hose (8) immediately.
Otherwise escaping brake fluid will cause damage to adjacent components.
IMPORTANT The sealing rings of the banjo bolt (7) can be reused.

10 Remove brake caliper (5) from brake caliper support (6).
INSPECT Check
11
REFER TO MAINTENANCE
Check brake pads for wear and condition. If damage is present or the wear is outside the wear limit,

Replace brake pads.
AP42.10-P-4252G
IMPORTANT Replace brake pads as a complete set only. AR42.10-P-1610XG
12
REFER TO MAINTENANCE
Check condition of brake disc and measure degree of wear. If damage is present or the wear is outside the wear limit,

Replace brake disc.
AP42.10-P-4256EW
IMPORTANT Replace brake discs as a complete set only. AR42.10-P-0220XG
13 Check brake caliper (5) and dust boot on brake piston for leaktightness and damage. If leaks or damage is present,

Replace brake caliper (5).

14 Check boots and guide pins (4) for damage and ease of movement. If there is excessive resistance or damage,

Replace guide pins (4).

15 Check brake caliper support (6) for wear and condition. If wear or damage is present.

Replace brake caliper support (6).
AR42.10-P-0220XG
16 Check brake hose (8) for leaktightness and damage. If leaks or damage is present,

Replace brake hose (8).
AR42.10-P-0013XG
CLEANING Clean
17 Clean contact surfaces of brake pads on brake caliper (5). NOTES
Do not damage the dust boot on the brake piston or the boots. Do not use sharp-edged or pointed objects.
Otherwise replace the brake caliper (5).

INSTALLING Install
18 Push back brake piston using pusher tool back until brake caliper (5) moves freely. SPECIAL TOOL Resetting device Fig 2
19 Attach brake caliper (5) to brake caliper support (6).
20 Screw brake hose (8) onto brake caliper (5) with banjo bolt (7) and sealing rings. Only when replacing the brake caliper (5).
NOTES
Install the brake hose free of twists and kinks.
Otherwise it cannot be guaranteed that there will be an adequate distance from other axle components in all driving situations.
IMPORTANT The sealing rings of the banjo bolt (7) can be reused.
